Millennials - Your Time Has Come by Stephen Vigiano

In his first book, Enrich Your Life and the World with the Game of Golf, the playing field for author Stephen Vigiano was too confined. In that 2020 work, he made the point that “Golf is a sport that transcends a club and a ball. It is a sport that teaches compassion for others — a key ingredient that will turn the world around…If golf is a vehicle for bringing compassion to the world, then I believe it should be part of the American fabric.”

Now two years later, the author, a PGA professional and golf instructor, is taking on a much wider universe, and his diatribe on our world and society is reminiscent of anchorman Howard Beale’s famous line from the movie Network: “I’m mad as hell and am not going to take it anymore.”

The “mad as hell” claim by Vigiano, in the pages of his new Millennials — Your Time Has Come, is an example of how the author needs to present a very negative view of our current condition in order to encourage a very positive message.

ENCOURAGES A VERY POSITIVE MESSAGE

And since Vigiano believes it already is too late for his generation of Baby Boomers to affect the wide-reaching change necessary to correct the state of the world and country, he is targeting the generation known as Millennials — all 1.8 billion of them worldwide (for which three of them are Vigiano’s children).

“The society we live in today,” writes Vigiano, “is a photograph of the painted pictures from the minds of past generations. The only way to alter society is to change the current picture we have painted that displays this imbalanced top-down country and world we currently adhere to and live in.”

“Our country has masked over its fatal flaws with lies, deceit and putting a band-aid over the open wounds that the leaders of this nation have inflicted on its people.”

The author sugarcoats nothing and points to flaws in the structure of government, a system in which the rich get richer and perhaps most importantly an infrastructure created by generations of leaders that are out of touch with today’s needs and concerns.

He believes that Millennials are the ones confronted with the monumental task of restoring humanity — no simple challenge.

Much of the solution lies in the power of positive thinking, with each individual directing energies to actions and ideas that ultimately would affect the overall good of mankind.

Vigiano is a careful listener, to his children who represent the Millennial generation, and observer to what he sees as an unjust world whose current leaders are compounding mistakes of their predecessors. Is he a dreamer? No doubt. What’s important to him in this book is sharing those dreams.

THE BOOK IS A CALL TO ACTION

By doing so, Vigiano is providing a history lesson, inspirational words and, hopefully, a motivational message.

Is Millennials — Your Time Has Come a roadmap on how we can change our nation and move the world safely into the 21st century? Yes and no. It urges a particular mindset, but it is up to individuals to figure out how to take that mindset and transform our world. Buying into that mindset is a big first step in its own right.

To that degree, this book, in the words of the author’s son Troy, is a call to action — “to redirect our energies in positive ways that will bring this nation out of the grips of poverty and ignorance that has held it back for the past 400 years.”

“Faith is the fuel that ignites the flames of optimism,” writes Vigiano. “Although faith may not be seen to the naked eye, it is a belief that can be seen in our imagination.”

“With these changes that our untapped mind will create will come a renewed faith that mankind can change and transform this planet…We will create new memories of what the world’s potential could be.”
