Former DC detective turned crime-writer David Swinson departs from his previous novels with City on the Edge, but he brings a wealth of intimate knowledge about “the Paris of the Middle East” — aka Beirut, Lebanon — to this international thriller. “I’ve been wanting to write [City on the Edge] for a long time,” said Swinson, “because Beirut was a significant time in my life.” Although the novel isn’t autobiographical, it does draw from the author’s personal experiences living in Lebanon as a child in the 1970s.

Swinson and fellow author Casey Barrett sat down to discuss the novel, diving into Swinson’s past and how his own childhood influenced the story.
