If you were on the east coast this weekend, storms, heavy winds, down trees and power outages kept many of us indoors. As book lovers, we really don’t mind because it just gives us a chance to pick up that new Spring read we’ve been meaning to get to or return to one of our favorite classics.
But, that was last week.

Monday, March 5, 2018: Bard College Professor and bestselling author Daniel Mendelsohn will be reading from his new memoir, An Odyssey: A Father, a Son, and an Epic (Knopf) at the National Arts Club in Gramercy. Mendelsohn started writing An Odyssey when his father, an 81 year old computer scientist decided to enroll in the seminar his son was teaching on Homer’s Odyssey. Tonight’s reading is at the National Arts Club, located at 15 Gramercy Park South, New York City. The event will start at 8:00PM, and will be followed by a wine reception. Tuesday, March 6, 2018: Take a step into the world of publishing with PubTechConnection 2018. Hosted by New York University’s Center for Publishing and Publisher’s Weekly, the conference look at how technological innovation impacts the publishing industry, nurturing new viewpoints and editorial voices, and how established authors can advance their branding across media platforms. The biggest names in publishing and literary PR will be attendance. This is an all-day event (9:00 am-5:00 pm) on Tuesday, March 6th, at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, located at 60 Washington Square S., New York City. Wednesday, March 7, 2018: Amy Kaufman, author of the book Bachelor Nation (Dutton), will be at Strand Books at 7:00 pm. Kaufman will be speaking on not only her book, but on the effects that The Bachelor has had on society’s views of love, marriage, sex, and feminism. Thursday, March 8, 2018: Daniel Magariel will be presenting his debut novel, One of the Boys (Scribner) at Books Are Magic. The story focuses on two boys and their father who have, as they say, won the war: the bitter divorce and subsequent custody battle. The boys go back to school and start making friends, while they watch their father fall farther and farther down a rabbit hole of darkness and anger, until he changes into something they can’t quite recognize. A beautiful novel of psychology and shattered family, Daniel Magariel will be speaking with author Alexandra Kleeman. Friday, March 9, 2018: Jamie Warren, an Assistant Professor of American History, Women’s Studies and the History of Women and Gender will be leading a seminar at Strand Books on sex, desires and perversions. Saturday, March 10, 2018: André Aciman, the author of the book Call Me By Your Name (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) will be at the Cinema Arts Center, located at 423 Park Ave, Huntington, NY. The book was turned into a film of the same title and was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this past Sunday, and winning the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The event is hosted by the Long Island Literary Festival, and will start at 3:30PM. Purchase tickets to André Aciman’s reading and book signing, which includes a viewing of the film.
