With three new standalone releases coming from Susan Mallery in 2024 — The Summer Book Club (out now), For the Love of Summer (June) and One Big Happy Family (October) — this busy author still makes time to read the latest in romance. Mallery is a #1 New York Times bestselling author who has sold over 40 million copies of her beloved novels that explore the relationships that define women’s lives — friendship, love and family.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Susan Mallery shares a handful of her favorite romance books and gives us a sneak peek into what she likes about them.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
Pure romantic fantasy, with a (literally) kick-ass everywoman winning the heart of a Hollywood heartthrob. In this case, the everywoman is a bodyguard, and the heartthrob is, at his core, a regular guy who wants to be loved. I’m excited for Katherine’s connected book, The Rom-Commers, this summer.
The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren
This one floated to the top of my favorite CLo list because Fizzy is such an incredible character. Ever had a friend who says shocking things out loud — in public? That’s Fizzy, and I adore her. Watching her find love was pure fun.

Happy Place by Emily Henry
Harriet and Wyn’s story had me hovering on the sweet-painful edge of longing. They dated for years, broke up, and then must pretend they’re still together so they don’t ruin a celebratory week for their best friends. Emily has her own section on my keeper shelf!
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
Poor, tortured Briana. Freshly divorced, worried about her sick brother, and a hotshot new doctor might steal her dream promotion. But hotshot is, well, hot, and their love story gave me all the feels.
