Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

What's It About?

Two doctors fresh out of failed relationships learn about personal growth, how first impressions might be wrong, and the ups and downs that come with giving love a second chance.

Abby Jimenez writes books for readers who adore romance novels, and love to immerse themselves in the worlds of realistic characters caught in relatable situations. By adding a dash of comedy to stories of unexpected love, complicated relationships and second chances, Abby’s novels have captured many hearts and led her to become a New York Times bestselling author.

Abby Jimenez is more than just a writer; she has a background in baking. She is a former Food Network winner, thanks to the baked creations she started producing in her home cake studio called Nadia Cakes. Her books like Part of Your World and The Friend Zone show the ups and downs of love and relationships, which always conclude with satisfying endings. Abby Jimenez’s latest novel, Yours Truly (Forever), is no exception.

Difficult Situations and Miscommunication Lead to Love

Dr. Briana Ortiz and Dr. Jacob Maddox are thrown together when Jacob begins working at the same hospital as Briana. Briana’s first impression is anger and disgust, especially after her boss admits that he might be considering Jacob for the same promotion she was working towards.

Briana struggles with her recent divorce and a brother in critical condition that puts him in need of a kidney donor. Jacob is also dealing with his own challenges; he is coping with a hard breakup himself — in which his ex-girlfriend has coupled up with his brother. As Briana works alongside Jacob at the hospital, she learns more about him and is surprised to find herself warming up to him. She realizes that he might not be as bad as she thought and that her first impression might’ve been completely erroneous.

Readers will love the banter between both Briana and Jacob as they grow closer. From lunches at the hospital’s “sob closet” — where Briana opts to hide away during good and bad times — to communicating in the old-fashioned way of writing letters, the duo soon realizes that they have more in common than they thought.

Briana’s sadness and depression in response her brother’s situation coupled with Jacob’s struggle with social anxiety serve as great points of connection for the pair. They both lift each other up and help one another in unimaginable ways. Readers will enjoy their slow-burn romance and the comedic moments that lighten the mood of two characters dealing with hard situations.

A Book for the Hopeful and Romantic at Heart

The novel is beautifully written, and romantics will fall in love with the main characters’ relationship as they watch Briana and Jacob become closer and learn to open up. The story also provides the reader with hope, especially readers who might feel distraught and hopeless after facing one of life’s many roadblocks.

With themes such as divorce, the fragility of life, and family issues, the book addresses how we can best overcome mental health challenges and daily struggles. This well-paced story carefully presents these complicated themes, and will leave the reader deep in thought long after the final page.

Yours Truly is a perfect book for adults, but appropriate enough for young adults seeking a new adult novel. This story is one that will stay in your heart and you’ll remember for a long time. If this is your first of Abby Jimenez’s books, you will be inspired to pick up more of her romantic, thoughtful, and entertaining novels.
