NEWS FROM THE BOOK WORLD

Barnes & Noble unveiled its list of the best books of 2022, with titles by Celeste Ng, Michelle Obama, Jennette McCurdy, Tess Gunty, Louise Penny, R.F. Kuang, Ben Macintyre, Siddhartha Mukherjee, A.F. Steadman and Bonnie Garmus making the cut.

Some books to screen news popped up this week. Variety reported that actor and singer Jessica Simpson’s memoir, Open Book, is headed to the small screen. Deadline reported that John Waters will write and direct a film adaptation of his debut novel, Liarmouth. And lastly, Amazon dropped a trailer for Three Pines, the upcoming series based on the mystery novels of Canadian author Louise Penny. Check out the exciting trailer here:

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES WORTHY OF NOTE

Congratulations to French author Annie Ernaux for winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, for “the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements, collective restraints of personal memory.”

MORE BOOKS THE MEDIA’S BUZZING ABOUT

2023 will bring us a tsunami of celebrity memoirs! Now, there’s no telling whether the celebs are trying to cash in on the Sussex’s “bombshell trend” in order to fill their own coffers (yet), but we’re certain there may be a few gasp-worthy moments to be found. People Magazine reported that Dey Street Books will publish Jada Pinkett-Smith’s autobiography (still untitled) next year, as well as Pamela Anderson’s new memoir, Love, Pamela. Hollywood Reporter also reported that Blink-182 bassist and singer Mark Hoppus is writing a memoir that will cover all the big things in his life.

Television host Eboni K. Williams will publish Bet on Black: The Good News About Being Black in America Today with Legacy Lit next year, according to People Magazine.
