Award-winning women’s fiction author Marian L. Thomas likes to compare her characters to butterflies. She says, “When you think about butterflies, they start off in that really kind of ugly [state] … then they go through that transformation, and then out comes this really beautiful butterfly … Each of my characters in my books has that transformation.” Thomas joined BookTrib to discuss the metamorphosis at the center of her latest novel, Someone Like Me, in which Mýa Day, our butterfly, learns to love herself and see her true value.

Readers have described Someone Like Me as heartbreaking and breathtaking. After hearing about the way Thomas crafts her characters, it’s easy to see why readers are falling in love with this book.
