Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if people were implanted with tracking devices that could help find missing children, protect against identity theft and provide instant access to medical information in the event of an emergency? Perhaps; but what if those tracking devices could be used to spy on and control people as well?

The same goes for cloning and gene editing; it’s full of potential for life-saving medical treatments and the elimination of hereditary disorders. But without legal authorization, who gives researchers, technicians, scientists and others the right to, in effect, play God? And can playing God be used for power, control and personal gain rather than the advancement of humanity?

Author Linda Kennedy wrestles with these themes on scientific, ethical and religious levels in her debut novel, The Number of Man, book one in a planned trilogy. (Read the full review here.)

Natalie Combs, a Los Angeles college student, discovers she is not who she thought after the sudden death of her parents, which produces information of her adoption. In searching for her true birth parents, she discovers an unbelievable secret that she had been cloned and had been being tracked and watched through an RFID chip human implant — a technology that existed long before the general public’s awareness of them.

We had a chance to ask Linda about some of the key themes in her work.

Q: Where did you get the idea for The Number of Man?

A: It came to me in two parts. The first was back when stores started transitioning to the barcode scanning system. I mentioned to my co-worker then that one day they would put something in our hands and/or forehead to complete the transaction based on biblical prophecy in Revelations. Then came Dolly the cloned sheep. Suddenly the idea for the combination came to me.

Q: Can you imagine a world in which everyone has an implanted tracking chip?

A: Can’t you? The system is in place, and whether it is a forced vaccine and/or a chip or quantum dot stamp certificate to be able to live a “normal” life, then yes. However, there will be those such as myself who will not comply with these mandates. Time will tell at what lengths the heads of these agendas will go against those who refuse. How many more rounds of conditioning will it take for most of the people around the world to want to be protected by a man-made vision of safety and security and good health?

Q: Tell us about how you raise both the pros and cons of such technology in your book.

A: By watching commercials promoting such technology and listening to many scientists that developed them, I developed the pros. Cons were analyzed through a Biblical and human nature lens, as well as some experience of good things gone bad in my life. God gives great judgments to those accepting the beast system (man’s system). To what extent will these “humanitarian” efforts set up by man give that only allows a few to control the rest of humanity? What if you comply and get this device and you do something outside the laws that “They” have set? They can use it as a weapon on you physically and mentally and enslave you. God warns that at the end of the age, He will have to shorten the days and intervene before all mankind is destroyed. Could He be referring to man messing with things he shouldn’t mess with?

Q: Tell us about the role cloning plays in your book.

A: This is a bit harder to answer. The role of cloning is not as fully developed in mind and I am continuing research. However, in my sequel, Number of Man: The Mission, I expound a bit on a few roles cloning could be used in, but do not want to give that away just yet.

But when you look at the gene editing and cloning that goes on in just about everything from plants, animals, insects, viruses, to humans, is it a wonder that we have so many problems? Though most countries, other than China, have restrictions on human cloning due to the ethics surrounding it, I suspect most push the envelope and do things beyond those restrictions.

Q: What do you hope readers take away from your book?

A: I hope that through this fictional storyline, readers begin to see where these technologies and sciences are heading. To understand everyone was created by a pre-existing eternal God for His good pleasure and fellowship as a family. That man cannot and should not think he is able in his own wisdom to fix a spiritual identity problem through technology, cloning and creating a one-world order system … which is coming. It is time to really decide each man/woman for themselves and not just be led like sheep to the man-made “Beast” system.
