Looking for a way to get your writing career off the ground? Let us help you launch it!

Here’s a great opportunity for anyone who considered a career as a writer to be published! Our inaugural memoir writing contest is your chance to compete for a  gig as a BookTrib Contributor. Inspired by Kathleen Hill’s memoir, She Read to Us in the Late Afternoons: A Life in Novels, the writing contest is a chance for you to show us how books have made your life special!

We are looking, specifically, for narratives in the style of Hill’s book that connect recollections of life events to a specific book that invokes a memory.

Writers should submit clear, eloquent, creative work of no more than 2,500 words.  Writing style is up to the author, but it should be written as memoir only.  Your voice is your own and we hope you will show that in your work. Your contribution could be a chapter from a larger manuscript, a short story, or just a stand alone piece. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination, all work must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.

The Top Five entries will be published on our website, and the authors will be interviewed individually for a live video chat with a member of our staff about their entries and writing experience. The Grand Prize is a 12-month engagement as a BookTrib contributor. There will be TWO Grand Prize winners.

Hill, BookTrib’s senior editor, Aisha K. Staggers and two guest judges, Walt Gragg author of The Red Line and James R. Hannibal author of The Fourth Ruby will decide on the five finalists and pick the Grand Prize Winner from among them.  The final day for entries is January 31, 2018. The winner and runners-up will be announced in February 2018.

For more details on how to enter and submission guidelines, visit our contest page. Don’t forget to read our exclusive interview with Kathleen Hill and check out her book, She Read to Us in Late Afternoons.

Contestants can join an hour-long dialogue on Facebook with BookTrib’s senior editor, Aisha K. Staggers on December 7, 2017 at 8pm EST.  She will be offering suggestions that will help you become more competitive and improve your chances of writing a winning entry. For specific questions and inquires email: aisha@booktrib.com.
