Any Star Wars fan worth her salt knows what today is – Star Wars Day. The world over, fans of George Lucas’ life-consuming series set in a galaxy far, far away have dubbed May the 4th Star Wars Day because if its aural similarity to the Jedi salutation “May the Force be with you.” Though this is not Lucasfilm sanctioned holiday, fans celebrate as if they were a part of the strike team that destroyed the Death Star’s shield generator in Return of the Jedi.

starwarsforceawakensheroesportraitvanityfair_largeThis Bookish Diva remembers being mocked for reminding people for YEARS that Star Wars was supposed to be a nine-movie series, that the trilogy we loved was the middle three, and that Mr. Lucas owed us six more movies. Then the prequels and Jar Jar Binks happened. I will admit that Episode I: The Phantom Menace shook my faith in the Force. However, the birth of Darth Vader in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith re-energized me.

Yes, watching Obi-Wan and Anakin duel on Mustafar was hard, but necessary for this Bookish Diva’s fave to be born. That’s right. I’m Team Vader. Ever since I bore witness to the mental and emotional manipulations of Palpatine (seriously he lied about the man’s wife and child), I’ve ridden harder for Vader than Chewie does for Han. It is that deep.

When Master Lucas sold Lucasfilm, my faith once again wavered. I found that doubt and anger crept into my heart. Just as I was going to succumb to the Dark Side, I heard the words every Star Wars fan had been hoping for –- Episode VII: The Force Awakens is coming with J.J. Abrams at the helm.

We are on countdown folks. December 18 will be here before we know it. All signs point to the gang being back together and I can’t wait to see what has happened not quite so long ago in a galaxy that is still far, far away.

In the meantime, quiet your mind and focus on this offering.
