Breaking News: Emmy-Nominated Actress Kathryn Hahn to Release Picture Book, ‘My Wish for You’

Entertainment Weekly just revealed that Emmy-nominated actress Kathryn Hahn is releasing a new book, My Wish for You.  The news of the book, which is illustrated by Brigette Barrager, is so new that only EW has a picture of the cover. Published by Scholastic, EW says, “The book is fashioned as an honest, heartfelt reminder to girls at every age and every stage of the beauty and strength that resides inside each of them. It’s a poignant, encouraging reminder to mothers, daughters, and friends of the importance of simply being yourself.”   Inspired by her own child, Hahn wanted to produce something that built on the bold displays of womanhood and femininity that can be found in her acting work. Author Tanya Lee Stone celebrates her 100th book — by starting her 101st!

What do 100 books look like? For author Tanya Lee Stone, who just recently finished her 100th book, it includes a wide variety of titles—from picture books to nonfiction to young adult novels. Color Has No Courage, her nonfiction account of America’s first black paratroopers, won an NAACP Image Award, while her picture book, Who Says Women Can’t Be Doctors, was an NPR Best Book of 2013. The list goes on and on (and on!). Girl Rising, due in 2016, is officially Stone’s 100th book, and is an adaptation of the movie.  “I am expanding the content of that beautiful film to cover more ground and tell more stories in it than the medium of film would allow,” Stone said…

Remember the Hallmark commercial that said whatever the situation, there’s a card for that? It certainly seems that way now with celebration days. Have a fondness for teddy bears? There’s a Teddy Bear Day. How about brownies? Did you know there’s a Brownie Day? How about Houseplant Appreciation Day? There’s even a Pet Rock Day! Of course, many of them are meant to be quirky and fun, while others serve to memorialize significant events. On September 7 we have National Grandparents’ Day, which I’ve always thought to be another “made-up” fun day for grandparents. A further look into it reveals that in 1978 President Jimmy Carter officially proclaimed the first Sunday in September after Labor Day as National Grandparents’ Day.…
