Cassandra Finnerty

Blending themes of Celtic folklore, one female’s journey to prove she is worthy of the power she inherits.

About Cassandra Finnerty

Cassandra is the author of action-adventure, fantasy and romance.

She loves to create bold, untamed and endearing characters who struggle to overcome their flaws.

Her fondness for western Ireland – with its rugged shores, hidden caves and wind-swept cliffs — inspired many settings in the Princess of Nature Series.

Cassandra enjoys writing about mystical powers, lush landscapes and stormy seas.

Biggest literary influencers:

A few of my favorites include:  Louisa May Alcott, Maya Angelou, L. Frank Baum, the Bronte sisters, Daphne Du Maurier,  Elizabeth Gaskell,  C.S. Lewis, Lucy Maud Montgomery, William Thackeray, and Edith Wharton.

Last book read:

I just finished reading I, Eliza Hamilton, by Susan Holloway Scott. It’s a vivid portrait of a woman who was a force in her own right. The author did a great job researching the time period and creating a context for the story.

The book that changed your life:

It’s hard to name a favorite book — what really changed my life was joining a book club. It fostered a love of reading, and opened up new worlds.

Even though I was young at the time, I found I could have conversations with adults about the book we just shared.

It taught me that a love of reading can transcend age, background, language, and other dimensions, and that we all have more things in common than we imagine.

Your favorite literary character:

There are so many great literary characters – from Jane Eyre to Elinor Dashwood – but I’d have to say that Dorothy in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a favorite.  This is one of those books where the characters and images leap off the page.

Dorothy is portrayed as bold but humble, and despite insurmountable obstacles, keeps moving forward.  What stands out for me is the transformation that she goes through during her journey.
