Langston Mangston's Cool-Le-Made Adventure by Chandler G. Hayes

What's It About?

Join Langston-Mangston, his parents, and his imaginary best friend, the pink elephant Zonky, as they embark on fun family discussions about personal finance.

Langston-Mangston turns his ice-cold “Cool-Le-Made” into cold hard cash!

What is one lesson that, now as an adult, you wish you were taught in childhood? Mine would be, hands down, the importance of money. Growing up, I had no clue about the financial world or the importance of budgeting and saving. This, unfortunately, has made that lesson so much harder to learn now that I am an adult.

Of course, I had jobs growing up, but as soon as I was paid, I could feel my paycheck burning a hole in my pocket and would spend it all at Target or the Disney store — shame on me! Maybe if I had a book like Langston-Mangston’s Cool-Le-Made Adventure by Chandler G. Hayes on my bookshelf as a kid, I would have known how to better manage my money.

Lemonade Stand Dilemma

We meet Langston-Mangston and his imaginary best buddy, Zonky the pink elephant, as they gear up to sell some cool drinks on a warm day. Langston and Zonky have been inspired to start their own business so Langston can buy his own toys and help his parents with the “tax-things”. His parents are moved by such a kind gesture and encourage him to work hard but still make time to have fun.

Soon enough, business is booming! So much so, that he has to make a whole new batch of drinks only to find out he’s out of sugar! Armed with his earnings so far, he asks mom and dad to take him to the store so he can buy his own bag of sugar.

Unfortunately, both mom and dad are busy, so Langston and Zonky put their heads together to figure out their next move. Luckily, a friendly neighbor has tons of sugar to spare and gives it to Langston-Mangston! The smart businessman he is, Langston offers to pay for the sugar, but Mr. Tiller lets him have it at no cost. HOORAY!

Early Lessons That Last a Lifetime

At the end of the day, Langston-Mangston has worked hard to earn some money to help around the house, but he’s still filled with so many questions. Like, what is a bill? Can dad show Langston his checkbook? What is a paycheck? Dad promises that after Langston-Mangston gets a good night’s sleep from all his hard work, he will answer all his burning questions.

Langston-Mangston’s Cool-Le-Made Adventure is a precious story that will encourage children to be creative, dream big, and get in touch with their inner entrepreneur! This book covers the basic concepts that will spark a curiosity for how money affects everyone every day. Chandler Hayes has created a great guide that shows parents how to cultivate and empower their children’s confidence, build young problem solvers, and open a space to have important conversations regarding personal finance.
