“I Am Pilgrim” Author Finally Finishes Next Book
It has taken Terry Hayes 10 years, but his much-delayed second book, The Year of the Locust, is set to be released in February by Simon and Schuster. Hayes, best known as a screenwriter (Mad Max 2) until I Am Pilgrim in 2014 cracked everybody’s “best book” lists, has turned out a Michael Crichton-esque spy thriller that S&S claims was worth the wait.
Scholastic Under Fire for Allowing Schools to Opt Out of ‘Diverse Books’ for Book Fairs
Several librarians have taken to social media to allege that Scholastic allows schools to opt out of providing diverse books at Scholastic book fairs. Apparently, Scholastic has compiled all of its “diverse” books — books with BIPOC characters, LGBTQ+ topics, immigration issues, and racism — into one case. This way, conservative and bigoted school officials can easily decide that they don’t want diverse books and refuse to have the diverse case sent over. Read the full article here.
Sullivan’s Crossing TV Series Hits the U.S.
Based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling Sullivan’s Crossing book series, the TV drama started streaming in the USA Oct 4 on The CW Network (originally on CTV in Canada). The series is set and filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada with an all-star cast including two CW favorites: Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls). The show follows neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) as she tries to escape her problems by heading back to her childhood home, Sullivan’s Crossing, to see her estranged father.
