Happy weekend, book lovers! We have so much tea to spill this week, we don’t even know where to begin. There are some fabulous new books coming in 2023, Colleen Hoover has been making some bank with her latest release and Sara Shepard is dipping her toes into middle-grade fiction. That’s just the beginning, though. So, get ready for some juicy scoops in this week’s The Pulse.

NEWS FROM THE BOOK WORLD

Fans of Lana Del Rey won’t be keen to hear that the singer-songwriter lost a manuscript after various items, including her laptop, was stolen from her car in L.A. There is no official word on what the book was about, though. Still … this is a terrible loss!

We also have an update on Salman Rushdie. His agent has come out and said that the author has lost sight in one eye and the use of a hand after the attack by a man who rushed the stage at a literary event in western New York in August. “He’s going to live … That’s the important thing,” the agent told the Spanish-language newspaper El Pais in an article.

Our books-to-screen news this week has a couple of exciting announcements we can’t wait to share with you. Deadline reported that Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will star in a series based on Ben Mezrich’s adventure novel, Seven Wonders. Deadline also reported that Uzo Aduba will star in a limited series that’s based on Wanda M. Morris’ All Her Little Secrets!

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES WORTHY OF NOTE

Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 getAbstract International Book Award! Michael Carolan‘s A Decent Meal won first place in the Business Impact category. Brandon Carson‘s L&D’s Playbook for the Digital Age came out on top in the newly added Learning Impact category. The Readers’ Choice Award went to Audrey Selian & David Cooperrider‘s The Business of Building a Better World.

The 2022 Connecticut Book Awards, honoring the best books written by state residents and natives, or set in the state, have also been announced. A huge congratulations go out to all the winners, who include Tochi Onyebuchi, Mark Oppenheimer, G. D. Falksen, Beth Vrabel, Sarah Albee, Winsome Hudson-Bing, Janet Lawler and Emily Layden.

We have some great new books coming in 2023 that we bet you won’t want to miss! Simon & Schuster recently revealed that it will publish The Future by the author of the 2017 bestseller, The Power, Naomi Alderman.

Associated Press announced that Crown will publish Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You by country-rock singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams next year. The memoir will tell the story of her childhood and musical career.

Sara Shepard, best known for her young adult thriller series Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, is making the leap to middle-grade fiction in 2023. Penny Draws a Best Friend, said to be a humorous, heartfelt series about friendship and feelings, will be published by Putnam Books for Young Readers.

A little birdie from across the Atlantic Ocean announced that Fleet recently signed a “thrilling” new book by double Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Colson Whitehead. This is definitely a book to keep an eye out for, readers.

The birdie also spread some news about how HarperCollins is bringing forward the publication of ex-Prime Minister Liz Truss’ biography, written by Harry Cole and James Heale, and how it will including the dramatic events that led to her downfall last week. Can you say juicy?
