The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
For those who are new to The Thursday Murder Club (Pamela Dorman Books) by Richard Osman, it is a lovely group of retirees that get together every week to sus out a cold case murder. The third book in this series, The Bullet That Missed, takes us on another whirlwind journey with this cooky crew. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim are looking into a decade-old murder case that leads them to the doorstep of a local news celebrity and some old “colleagues” from the old days. Will they find out who killed Bethany or will this remain an unsolved mystery? With no body and little evidence, the group certainly has their work cut out for them.
THE PLOT THICKENS
Time is of the essence as Elizabeth Smart, a former MI6 agent, gets a visit from a new threat and is given a choice: kill or be killed. Can she pull this off while keeping the rest of the crew blissfully unaware? Joyce’s life has been threatened, and Elizabeth is trying to keep that under wraps. But since Elizabeth is a pro, sneaking around and telling little white lies are her forte — and Joyce remains unaware until she needs to know.
This cast of characters quickly uncovers information and clues as they forge new friendships that may ultimately help them solve the case but may also end up in lifelong friendships. The Thursday Murder Club has never shied away from a challenge, and the fact that this case has been cold for ten years makes it even more appealing. That and the fact that Joyce may meet a celebrity!
A CAST EVERY READER WANTS TO JOIN
Imagine a series that centers around your grandparents who have watched far too much Law & Order. If that sounds like a hoot, you need to read this.
Richard Osman has created characters that make you feel like they’re your friends and a world that is full of danger, and twists and turns that are intricate, yet somehow relatable. Admittedly, I’ve never chased down a murderer and uncovered mysteries, but, I want to be in this group. I want to be a part of the Thursday Murder Club, and somehow Osman has allowed the reader to come right along. Joyce would definitely be offering me tea.
If you’re looking for a cozy mystery and thriller with vivid characters and quirky prose, this series and this book are for you. It is hands down one of my favorite series, and I truly cannot recommend it enough.
