Happy weekend, Book Lovers! We have so much news to share with you this week, from book bans to the ongoing antitrust trial to Britney Spears’ memoir. NEWS FROM THE BOOK WORLD

We start off this week with some book ban news … It’s been reported that New York state prison authorities have lifted a ban on a book about the 1971 Attica uprising, Blood in the Water by Heather Ann Thompson, following a First Amendment lawsuit. Parents from Bergen County in New Jersey, as well as a mayor from a nearby town, have demanded that George Johnson’s All Boys Aren’t Blue be taken off their school’s summer reading list after being criticized as being “pornographic.” Meanwhile, the largest school district in Utah has removed 52 books from school library shelves, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Some of the books include titles by Sarah J. Maas, Amy Lukavics, E. Lockhart and even Jodi Picoult. Here is Pen America’s list:

 

Stephen King recently took the witness stand at the federal trial concerning the proposed merger of mega-publishers Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster and charmed the courtroom, according to Associated Press.

TMZ reported that the highly-anticipated upcoming memoir by pop-sensation, Britney Spears has been delayed due to the ongoing paper shortage.

In books-to-screen news, Variety recently reported that Yolk by H.K. Choi is heading to the small screen. What’s more, Deadline reported that Netflix’s adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full Head has added six new cast members! The new cast includes: William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), Tom Pelphrey (Mank), Aml Ameen (I May Destroy You), Chanté Adams (Roxanne Roxanne), Sarah Jones (Damnation), and Jon Michael Hill (Elementary). In other news, Netflix has released the trailer for Blonde, the highly anticipated Marilyn Monroe biopic based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel of the same name! Check it out:

If you’ve been waiting to hear what celebrity book clubs are reading this month, then we’ve got you covered! Jamie Ford’s The Many Daughters of Afong Moy is the latest pick for Jenna Bush Hager’s Today show book club. Reese’s Book Club has picked Gillian McAllister’s Wrong Place Wrong Time for this month. While Emiko Jean’s Mika in Real Life is the latest pick for the Good Morning America book club. Both Belletrist (Emma Roberts’ book club) and Jimmy Fallon’s book club have chosen Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin for this month’s read. And Oprah’s Book Club is reading Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley.
