Headline news changes as fast as it can, with each new viral video, political scandal or celebrity moment that’s caught on tape. But there are some headlines that stay with you, and over the past year we’ve definitely had a few we won’t be forgetting any time soon: from the beginnings of the Russia investigation, to The New Yorker‘s expose on Harvey Weinstein.
While no one can predict the pace at which headline, breaking news is no longer worthy of being a headline, some events line up too perfectly for us not to comment on. Here we have a list of books on topics that have been dominating the news lately, whether they’re pop-culture, politics, or current events.

Ronan Farrow has been making continual headline news since late 2017 when he helped break the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Most recently, Farrow published an article in The New Yorker that’s causing waves for Donald Trump, providing more details of the affair he had with Playboy model Karen McDougal, while having just become a father to his son with Melania Knauss. But Farrow is also about to release a book this April on the state of diplomacy in the United States – there really couldn’t be a better time to pick this one up.

Trending just a few weeks ago was a photo of two year old Parker Curry, who was completely awestruck upon seeing Michelle Obama’s portrait at the National Portrait Gallery. Now, the little girl got to meet the woman she thought was a queen: Michelle Obama met Parker inside her Washington D.C. office, where the two danced together to Taylor Swift. Also making headline news? Michelle Obama’s upcoming book. The memoir will detail the experiences that helped her become who she is now, from her childhood in the South Side of Chicago, all the way to the White House and beyond. With a release date of November 13th, this memoir will be released just after the 2018 midterm elections.

Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump (Twelve), Michael Isikoff and David Corn. Release Date: March 13, 2018
As the investigation into the interference and dealings of the Russians within US politics and the current Cabinet gets deeper and closer to the truth, the news is filled with people all reporting on the same topic, but all saying different things. But on March 13th, pick up a copy of Russian Roulette. Authors Michael Isikoff and David Corn have compiled together in one book every piece of information you need to know on the scandals, the cover-ups, and try to answer the question of just how far a foreign government has infiltrated our own.

The television show The Bachelor has had a pretty interesting effect on people. With the season finale just a few days ago, it makes sense that it would be considered news, but this time the headlines are focused on viewers saying that ABC, the network the reality show is aired on, was cruel and manipulative with the shock break-up scene in part one of the finale. Despite this, viewers still faithfully tuned in the next night to watch part two. Why is there such a fierce call to the show? It’s not often that we find books trending all over the place on twitter, but that’s exactly what happened with Brad Meltzer’s The Escape Artist. As the Winter Olympics have just finished up, we’ve gotten to know the athletes pretty well, either via social media, interviews, or coverage, and Dancing with the Stars seems to have gotten the message. This April, DWTS comes back, but with a twist: the contestants will be made up entirely of athletes. Speaking of Dancing with the Stars, Erika Girardi, known professionally as Erika Jayne, a cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, made headlines when she was a contestant on the show in 2017. She’s now set to be making them again, as she’s coming out on March 20th with a tell-all memoir of what really goes on behind the scenes, her family life, and more.
The Walking Dead #178: New World Order Part 4 (Image Comics), Robert Kirkman, Charlie Allard, Stefan Gaudino, Cliff Rathburn. Release Date: April 4, 2018
The Walking Dead, which airs on AMC, has officially been renewed for a 9th season that will premiere sometime in very late 2018. While the television show is still in the midst of the 8th season, fans of the original comics the show was based on are also celebrating, with Part Four of New World Order out on April 4th.
Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman Deluxe Edition (Action Comics, DC Comics), Rogert Stern and Various. Release Date: April 17th, 2018
This year celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Superman comics, and the 40th anniversary of Superman: The Movie. Action comics, with DC Comics, have released a deluxe edition celebrating all things Superman related. While The Justice League movie only lightly featured Superman, played by British actor Henry Cavill, it’s been guaranteed that he’ll be back either in a standalone movie, or for the follow-up to The Justice League.
