Land of Stories: Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer

Actor, singer, and writer, Chris Colfer is a man of many talents. In addition to his 2011 Golden Globe win for his performance as Kurt Hummel on Glee, he is also the author of the children’s book series, Land of Stories, where twins Alex and Conner magically travel into the stories of the books they’ve been reading, and find themselves in the company of the fairy-tale characters. While the series seemed to have ended this past year, with Land of Stories: Worlds Collide, it’s just been announced that Colfer has signed a book deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers to write not only two new books for Land of Stories, but also an insider’s guide!

The series started in 2012, with Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, where it spent two weeks as #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children’s Chapter Books. As of 2017, there are six books in the series, with five companion books. Individually, and as a series, the books have spent weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, in a variety of categories.

Originally, Colfer was contracted to write a memoir, but at only 19 years old, he turned that offer down, saying in an interview with CBC’s q podcast, “I feel like when you write autobiographies, it finalizes things in a way, and there’s so much more that I wanted to do with my career, with my life.” Instead, he turned the book offer into the much beloved children’s series.

Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell is also being turned into a movie, with Colfer directing, writing the screenplay, and serving as an executive director. The film adaption will be produced by 21 Laps Entertainment, which also produced Night at the Museum, and more recently, Netflix’s Stranger Things.
