Tame Me by J. Kenner

By J. Kenner

All my books have a place. And I don’t mean the setting. I mean The Place where the book was primarily written (I might switch locations now and then, but each book has a Center of Operations)—and that place is inextricably tied up in my mind with that book forever.

Tame Me’s place is the big comfy armchair in my office (which has recently been moved upstairs and replaced by a more back-friendly anti-gravity chair).

It’s funny, because I can look back on most of my forty-odd books and remember where they were (mostly) written. Release Me  was written primarily on the couch in my living room. Claim Me primarily at my desk, with Complete Me being mostly completed at the kitchen table. Carpe Demon, my first demon-hunting soccer mom story, was written at the huge Salvation Army desk in my converted garage office with my infant daughter in a bouncy seat off to one side. Aphrodite’s Kiss is the product of many Starbucks outings.

Tame Me

Maybe it’s a novella thing, because both Take Me and Tame Me were armchair books. Or maybe I just have wanderlust when I write. I figure both options are equally probable! (We’re actually getting pool furniture today—as I write this.  I’m sincerely hoping that the books I write over the summer are going to be “by the pool” books!)

Most writers are creatures of habit, and I don’t think that I’m alone in needing a particular “set up” to write a book. In addition to place, I also need my tools. In my case, that’s my MacBook Air or my iMac. For Tame Me, I was using the Air (as the iMac would be very uncomfortable on my lap in the armchair) and when it crashed I just about freaked out. My husband offered me his, but that just wasn’t good enough. I needed mine, dang it. Didn’t my husband know that just because it had the same software and files (thank you, Dropbox) and size and shape and feel that that didn’t make it truly the same?

There are rhythms and rituals that go into writing a book. And while paying the bills is my muse’s biggest inspiration, I can’t deny the power of the space and the accoutrements.

Can’t deny, and have now given in…

And in case you are wondering, the upcoming Ignited is my very first Anti-grav chair book!

(Oh, and the sick MacBook Air? It was fixed so fast it would make your head spin. And I didn’t write a single word on my husband’s computer.)

About TAME ME

Aspiring actress Jamie Archer is on the run. From herself. From her wild child ways. From the screwed up life that she left behind in Los Angeles. And, most of all, from Ryan Hunter–the first man who has the potential to break through her defenses to see the dark fears and secrets she hides.

Stark International Security Chief Ryan Hunter knows only one thing for sure—he wants Jamie. Wants to hold her, make love to her, possess her, and claim her. Wants to do whatever it takes to make her his.

But after one night of bliss, Jamie bolts. And now it’s up to Ryan to not only bring her back, but to convince her that she’s running away from the best thing that ever happened to her–him.
