SPOLIER ALERT: 5 Things We Want to See on Sunday’s Outlander Premiere

in Fiction by

Warning – spoilers for both the show and the books ahead! This summer’s Droughtlander is finally over! Season 3 of Outlander premieres this Sunday on Starz and we are SO READY for it. It’s been way too long since we last saw Jamie and Claire Fraser making out on our screens and it felt like this hiatus would never end. We’ve had a lot to wait for too. When last we left them, the pair of lovers had been heartbreakingly separated, with time traveler Claire heading back through the stones to raise their child in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and Jamie charging into battle at Culloden in 1745. Twenty years have passed since they last saw each other, though neither…

Starz’s Outlander: 5 Reads on Jamie Fraser’s Fictional Bookshelf

in Fiction by

There are few characters as awesome as Jamie Fraser, the hero of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling Outlander series. Handsome, smart and loyal, Jamie is one of those rare book heroes who grab your heart from the very first page. It doesn’t hurt that he looks so great in a kilt, or that he’s so devoted to Claire, his time traveling wife and lady love. via GIPHY Thankfully, we get to see him in a kilt a lot these days. Ever since the TV show version aired on Starz back in 2014, we’ve been officially Jamie obsessed. And who can blame us? Sam Heughan makes the perfect Jamie, playing him as both broody and fun, the kind of guy we’d want to…

Outlander Kitchen Cookbook: Pair Your Favorite Episode with the Perfect Meal

in Non-Fiction by

I can’t say that I’ve ever eaten Scottish food. Actually, aside from haggis, I can’t say that I even really know what Scottish food is (I mean, there’s lots of sausage and potatoes, right?). So when I heard that there was going to be an Outlander-inspired cookbook, I was intrigued. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by Outlander Kitchen: The Official Outlander Companion Cookbook (Delacorte Press, June 14, 2016). Written by Theresa Carle-Sanders with a foreword by Diana Gabaldon herself(!), the cookbook is charmingly put together, pairing different dishes with their mentions in Gabaldon’s novels. There are 17 chapters, each one containing recipes for different meals or types of food. Browse through “Chapter 9: Game,” to learn how to make Venison Stew with Tomatoe-Fruits,…

Outlander Returns: Why Jamie and Claire are the Best Couple in Books and TV!

in Fiction by

The second season of Outlander premieres this Saturday and I. Am. So. Excited. Jamie in a kilt! Action! Adventure! Historical intrigue! The best sex scenes on TV! And did I mention Jamie in a kilt? I’ve been an Outlander fan since I first read Diana Gabaldon’s series back in high school. I love every novel in the series, but Dragonfly in Amber, the book this new season is based on, has always been one of my favorites. Claire and Jamie are crazy in love, expecting a child and wondering if they have the courage to change the future. But nothing ever goes as planned, and the two face even more challenges than they did in book one. Still, if any couple…

Do You Agree with These Choices for Favorite Book Boyfriend?

in Fiction by

Sometimes you don’t just love a book; you worship it. And sometimes you don’t just like a character in that book; you want to marry them. Whether they’re broody and intense or sweet and sensitive, there’s just something about this guy or gal that you can’t get enough of. You comb the pages for mentions of their name, linger on your favorite passages, and, uh, imagine that you’re the one making out with them during love scenes. Luckily, there’s a phrase for these kind of obsessive reading-crushes. Book boyfriends (or girlfriends!). These are the characters you would die to meet in real life, the people you can actually imagine yourself falling in love with—if only they didn’t exist solely in…

Books for TV Addicts: Outlander update, and 3 great books while you wait

in Fiction by

If you aren’t watching Outlander, you need to remedy that. Immediately. The show is dreamily shot, filled with hot guys in kilts, and has some of the best sex scenes I’ve ever seen on television. Sam Heughan’s Jamie is a red-headed dreamboat, and so in love with Caitriona Balfe’s Claire that he regularly sacrifices himself for her. Sometimes with disturbing results.   Regular viewers are still reeling from the season finale in May, where we learned what really went down between Jamie and Randall in Wentworth prison. Spoiler alert—it wasn’t good. But now Jamie and Claire are trying to heal, and headed to France to stop the Scottish uprising. Fans of the book are already dying to know how Starz…
