Wedded Bliss: The Best Book and TV Marriages that Prove Love Always Wins

in Fiction by

We’re in full swing of the biggest month of the year for weddings: June! And when you think of weddings, you almost always think of love, romance and happily ever afters. As a long time romance reader, I’m used to books that have a happy ending. But here’s the thing: we rarely see what comes next. Usually our couple kisses or gets married and then rides off into the sunset. The drama is over, and we’re left to imagine what the rest of their lives look like. Sometimes it’s nice to imagine that idyllic life, trusting that a couple’s future will be free from angst or hardship. But it’s also not very realistic. Because in reality, marriage isn’t an ending, it’s…

6 TV and Book Bad Boys That Make Us Feel So Good

in Fiction by

Ever since I first watched My So Called Life when I was only a preteen, I knew I was in trouble. Jordan Catalano kept leaning against things. In flannel. With those bangs flopping over his forehead and that brooding look in his eyes. It was official: I was hooked on bad boys. Years later, I still haven’t beaten my addiction. There’s just something about that boy from the wrong side of the tracks who didn’t have the best upbringing but still manages to have a soft side. A soft side that only comes out around his true love, naturally. Luckily for me (and all of you), there are tons of awesome television bad boys to drool over. Here are my…

End of Summer: What to Watch During the Hiatus

in Fiction by

It’s that time of year again: the end of summer. Our favorite TV shows are long finished and we are caught in that awkward and frustrating hiatus period between the summer finales and the long-awaited October premieres. This suspenseful time usually consists of trolling fan pages, seeking the company of fellow post-season grievers and rewatching our favorite episodes from last season. Some of us are still crying about Grey’s Anatomy‘s Derek Shepherd (I know I am!); Some of us lie awake at night wondering about the rumors of Jon Snow’s resurrection in the next season of Game of Thrones; And some of us are still coping with the end of an era: Mad Men. To keep yourself sane during this unstable and…

The 10 coolest TV moms ever

in Fiction by

When I was a kid, my mom often complained about the shows my sisters and I watched. “The mom is always dead!” she’d say. And she wasn’t wrong. From Full House to Punky Brewster, the mom never seemed to be in the picture when it came to television. But while mothers might have been missing from a lot of ‘80s and ‘90s sitcoms, it doesn’t mean they aren’t a part of our cultural landscape. So in honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday (and my own mom!), here are 10 of the coolest moms on TV: 1. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls You can’t have a cool-mom list without including Lorelai; her relationship with her daughter Rory is envied by mothers everywhere.…

Save our show! Fans unite to save our favorite TV programs

in Non-Fiction by

I’ll admit it: I donated to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign. My $30 bought me a digital copy of the movie, a T-shirt and the satisfaction of seeing my favorite TV show brought back to life. Which, as far as I’m concerned, is basically priceless. I realize I might be in the minority for thinking this way. Plenty of my friends and family have no idea what it’s like to fall in love with a show, to be consumed by it, to care so much you’re willing to spend your hard-earned money to keep it alive. I don’t simply watch my favorite shows, I scour the Internet for spoilers, I watch endless YouTube fan videos, I dream about them. And…
