Warning – spoilers for both the show and the books ahead! This summer’s Droughtlander is finally over! Season 3 of Outlander premieres this Sunday on Starz and we are SO READY for it. It’s been way too long since we last saw Jamie and Claire Fraser making out on our screens and it felt like this hiatus would never end. We’ve had a lot to wait for too. When last we left them, the pair of lovers had been heartbreakingly separated, with time traveler Claire heading back through the stones to raise their child in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and Jamie charging into battle at Culloden in 1745. Outlander Kitchen Cookbook: Pair Your Favorite Episode with the Perfect Meal

in Nonfiction by

I can’t say that I’ve ever eaten Scottish food. Actually, aside from haggis, I can’t say that I even really know what Scottish food is (I mean, there’s lots of sausage and potatoes, right?). So when I heard that there was going to be an Outlander-inspired cookbook, I was intrigued. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by Outlander Kitchen: The Official Outlander Companion Cookbook (Delacorte Press, June 14, 2016). Written by Theresa Carle-Sanders with a foreword by Diana Gabaldon herself(!), the cookbook is charmingly put together, pairing different dishes with their mentions in Gabaldon’s novels. There are 17 chapters, each one containing recipes for different meals or types of food. Browse through “Chapter 9: Game,” to learn how to make Venison Stew with Tomatoe-Fruits,…

Outlander Returns: Why Jamie and Claire are the Best Couple in Books and TV!

in Fiction by

The second season of Outlander premieres this Saturday and I. Am. So. Excited. Jamie in a kilt! Action! Adventure! Historical intrigue! The best sex scenes on TV! And did I mention Jamie in a kilt? I’ve been an Outlander fan since I first read Diana Gabaldon’s series back in high school. I love every novel in the series, but Dragonfly in Amber, the book this new season is based on, has always been one of my favorites. Claire and Jamie are crazy in love, expecting a child and wondering if they have the courage to change the future. But nothing ever goes as planned, and the two face even more challenges than they did in book one. Still, if any couple…

Books for TV Addicts: Outlander update, and 3 great books while you wait

in Fiction by

If you aren’t watching Outlander, you need to remedy that. Immediately. The show is dreamily shot, filled with hot guys in kilts, and has some of the best sex scenes I’ve ever seen on television. Sam Heughan’s Jamie is a red-headed dreamboat, and so in love with Caitriona Balfe’s Claire that he regularly sacrifices himself for her. Sometimes with disturbing results.   Regular viewers are still reeling from the season finale in May, where we learned what really went down between Jamie and Randall in Wentworth prison. Spoiler alert—it wasn’t good. But now Jamie and Claire are trying to heal, and headed to France to stop the Scottish uprising. Fans of the book are already dying to know how Starz…
