About Mark E Greene

BIO:  Mark E. Greene is an award-winning author with an offbeat sense of humor and a sharp eye for the absurd. A speeding lobster boat plowing through a flotilla of helpless sea kayakers sparked his interest in the rough-and-tumble world of Maine lobstermen and became the driving concept for Lobster Wars. His first novel, Cutthroat, grew out of a sense of impending doom when he was convinced that a Montana fishing guide was going to kill him. Mark has also written travel articles and equipment reviews for Outdoor Sports Magazine. When Mark is not writing, he and his family are pursuing all manner of self-propelled outdoor sports, providing content for his podcast: Mark in the Wild.

DESCRIPTION:  Lobster Wars is a tight, fast-paced social satire focusing on what happens when reality TV comes to a small fishing village in Maine.  The locals think they’re going to get famous and rich.  But it’s never that easy. Especially when Connor Nichols, a telegenic outsider, a guy from away, gets a lobster fishing license, buys a boat and horns in on their territory and their shot at fame and fortune.  The TV show airs to great ratings only increasing the pressure, the craziness.  Not to mention what happens when a few unsavory characters see the show and decide to get in on the action.  With filming about to begin, everything now hinges on season two.  But that’s okay, it’s reality TV, what could go wrong?

Lobster Wars is a multi-layered character driven novel that explores the inherent conflict resulting from an outsider attempting to enter the closed fraternity of lobstermen. The TV show’s production and on-air success serve as a fulcrum to leverage the discord among the key characters as they confuse dominance on the water with success on the TV screen.

Last book read:  Djibouti by Elmore Leonard

The book that changed your life:

Nothing but Blue Skies by Thomas McGuane.  This novel taught me that life can be a satirical, funny, yet serious journey if only we realize that what we have is often more important than what we want.

Your favorite literary character:

James Lee Burke’s character; Dave Robicheaux.  Robicheaux is a fully formed character possessing the skills and abilities of a hero, while also battling the flaws, weaknesses and demons of a mere mortal.

Currently working on:  The One Percent Club

The One Percent Club is a satirical story about Kenneth Walt, a high-flying ad exec only one step away from the ultimate prize – CEO of Hundley & Stewart, the world’s largest Ad Agency.  The problem is that Walt forgot about the corporate political battle that grinds on all day, every day.  The result, he gets fired with no warning.  None. Taking an early train home, Gault discovers his wife having an affair with her female Pilates instructor. Insult to injury.

With a quickly vanishing bank account and a wife struggling with her sexual identity, Walt works to rebuild his shattered life. The problem is that he’s following old patterns, chasing someone else’s dreams and as soon as he gets back on his feet, things come apart yet again. But thanks to a cast of odd ball characters – a giant pot smoking blacksmith, crazy hot fishing guide and a quick-tempered handyman – who live in the here and now, Walt finally discovers the path that has been in front of him the whole time and goes on to resolve his personal struggle – but a tremendous cost.
