BFF: A Story About Bullycide

by Lindsey G. P. Bell

GENRE: Young Adult
PUBLICATION DATE: 07/20/2020
DESCRIPTION:

Thirteen year-old Abby and her father have just moved from a leaky old sailboat in California to an inherited mansion in South Carolina, and Abby does not fit in. This is the story of the summer adventures she shares with new best friend, Hollis, and two boys from their class rescuing an injured heron. But when school begins, Abby is shocked to learn that Hollis is a bullied outcast...who, pushed to the limit, takes her own life - a phenomenon known as bullycide. BFF is told as a thirty-year flashback and attempts to show bullied kids that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem; if you are struggling, ask for help until someone hears you. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

In addition to BFF: A Story About Bullycide, Ms. Bell has completed drafts of seven children’s books, a novella, and three non-fiction volumes detailing her expeditions camping in Alaska with the late Grizzly Man, Timothy Treadwell. Ms. Bell also co-wrote a screenplay about Treadwell with friend Rebecca Dmytryk, who introduced them. Her spoof essay about The Lorax was published in the Reject-A-Hit column of Writer’s Digest (Oct. 2013) and her short story The Call, The Call of Duty, and The Call Home placed ninth out of fifty finalists in the Inspirational category of the Writer’s Digest 2019 Annual Contest. Ms. Bell is currently working on the second book in a farcical murder mystery series centered around a twenty-six-year-old protagonist. She hopes to release the first book later this year.
(((Ms. Bell uses her middle initials because in addition to the well-known Financial Strategist, Lindsey Bell, there is another author named Lindsey Bell who has published several books.)))

REVIEWS:

“...Bell tells this story from the heart and it shows! The thoughts and feelings of thirteen-year-olds are spot-on. The writing is exceptional and the pace flows perfectly. From the slow, meandering feel of South Carolina in the summer, to the trials of middle school, this book draws you in and doesn’t let you go.” - GINA RAE MITCHELL

"BFF: A Story About Bullycide was a very heartbreaking story, but it made me want to stand up for people a lot more, too. It was also very action-filled, and I enjoyed it very much. I loved this book and will tell my friends to read it." - FIFTH-GRADER ADDISON WELSH, NOVELS ALIVE

“As a mom I was concerned about the appropriateness for my children, but upon completion...found myself wanting all kids to read this to understand the gravity of their actions. Bell takes a subject that can be controversial and weaves a beautiful story. You will fall in love with the main character...I recommend this book to everyone." - ANNELIESE TOMLINSON
