Stage to Stage: My Journey to Broadway. by Josh Groban
The yellow stage lights feel hot on your face as the music swells and you begin your first number. You feel the notes deep within your body, and when those notes are shared, the result is a standing ovation. How did you get here? What steps did you take? This is what Josh Groban shares with us in his new coffee table book Stage to Stage: My Journey to Broadway.
Groban is not only a Broadway star; this Tony nominee is a multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. (You may remember his “Evermore” from the live action Beauty & The Beast). Like any star, they have a story of how they got where they are today, and Groban’s book gives us a look into his journey in a truly visual way: Pictures!
The pictures included in this book are personal, lively, and intimate. If you just look at the cover photo, it is not of a singer decked in glitter and bathed in neon lights. It is simply a look into a dressing room. It is quiet and subtle. Nothing too fancy, because it says all it needs to say on its own. The book gives you an idea of how Groban wants you to see him not only as an actor, but as a person. These pictures are his thoughts and feelings of his journey to where he is today.
Groban has always collected images, especially during the last three years of his journey. However, he never thought about organizing them into a book until recently. To him, it is “A time period documented that I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Now he will sing on stage as Pierre in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, a musical take on War and Peace. Even though this book tells the story of his voyage to Broadway, his journey is still far from over.
