Dear Readers,

Drop everything and read — it’s Beverly Cleary weekend!

As a kid, I couldn’t get enough of her stories — and honestly, that feeling never left me.

Most recently, I dropped everything for the Booker Prize winner Flesh by David Szalay — total immersion, no regrets.

In honor of Cleary’s birthday, the BookTrib team is sharing their can’t-put-it-down reads.

Your turn: what book made you drop everything?

Meryl Moss, Publisher, BookTrib

April 12th is Drop Everything and Read Day. Held on the birthday of celebrated author Beverly Cleary, this holiday urges readers to abandon all plans and escape into a great book. Our team shared the 5-star reads that made them drop everything, plus the books they’re dying to read right now...
Whidbey by T Kira Madden - I legitimately cancelled weekend plans to finish this. The vivid writing and varied perspectives made for a wildly compelling read. --Camryn
I'm With the Band by Pamela Des Barres - Any time I need an escape, it’s to 1970s California, partying with rockstars like Mick Jagger and Jimmy Page. This (sometimes unbelievably) true story will make you want to trade your work laptop for bell bottoms & a backstage pass. --Natalie
A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 6 by Sarah J. Maas - I’ll be unreachable during this launch in late October. I might even have to challenge myself to read this next drop in the few days before Halloween… or else I'll be looking like The Suriel from the natural undereye bags. --Kendall
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind - One of my favorite hidden gems in the world’s library I like to recommend. I didn’t know what to expect, since you know the main character will be committing several murders from the title. But, trust me, you will be surprised. --Lillian
The Tapestry of Fate by Shannon Chakraborty - Like the seafaring adventurers of this series, I too would commit piracy to get my hands on some treasure – in this case, an ARC of this book. May 12th can’t come fast enough! --Cammy
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin - I remember where I was when I finished Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. This is a book I wish I could read again for the first time. --Isabella
Unrivaled by Rachel Reid - As a fan of the book series and the TV show, I can’t wait for the conclusion to Shane and Ilya’s love story. --JeriAnn
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - I still remember staying up all night to finish this book! It was that captivating. --Barb
