Only Spell Deep by Ava Morgyn
Supernatural themes underscore many of the current wave of popular novels. The idea that there are forces beyond our control is enticing to many readers. The new novel from Ava Morgyn, Only Spell Deep, finds a place in the world of the supernatural that will entice readers to follow along with Jude, a witch who has left a coven, as she attempts to fight off the villainous characters who she meets that want her to help them unleash a force that can not be tamed. These forces are evil beyond compare, and the characters that Jude meets want to open the portal that will allow these forces into the world.
Only Spell Deep is a deep dive into the world of horror and gothic fiction. Set in the world of the modern Pacific Northwest, Jude is desperate to find her way in the world. She carries very traumatic memories of living with her domineering grandmother and the magic that her grandmother practices. She meets a person named Arla, who is intent on bringing the evil mentioned above into the world. Jude is fearful of what could happen and confides in Levi, who is a bookseller with resources to help Jude understand her past and work towards a brighter future. Jude trusts Levi and hopes that she can harness the power of positive magic to defeat Arla and keep the evil from ruining her life.
Magic is the essential aspect of Only Spell Deep. It is with magic that Jude can defeat Arla and her evil intentions. However, she must develop a close relationship with Levi in order to research and understand how to use magic safely and positively. The underlying risk that comes with using magic is prevalent in every decision that Jude makes. This risk is symbolic of any risk taken by someone who is seeking truth and wanting to make a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others around them.
Only Spell Deep is an excellent look into the dual aspects of human nature. Each of us can have both good and evil as part of our character. Jude is a seeker of how to control both of these equal and opposite aspects of human nature. The reader can identify with how difficult this struggle can be and the hard work that is required to make sure that good comes out ahead of evil. Only Spell Deep was a good read. The writing was smooth and flowed easily. This reader was easily and actively engaged. Anyone looking for the story of human nature and good versus evil would find the roadmap in Only Spell Deep.
