Bridesmaid Undercover by Meghan Quinn

Quinn knows how to hold the attention of romance readers with her immersive and character-driven stories.

If you are looking for adorable literary rom-coms, look no further than author Meghan Quinn’s books. They will satisfy your craving for digging into bookish romances with lots of heart.

Jam-packed with hilarious and touching subjects, with a dash of realistic themes, Quinn knows how to hold the attention of romance readers with her immersive and character-driven stories.

In her book Bridesmaid for Hire, we meet a workaholic by the name of Maggie Mitchell, who heads over to Bora Bora for a much-needed vacation, only to bump into the sexy Brody McFadden. This man is not only her brother’s best friend, but is currently her sworn enemy, and one with whom she had a steamy make-out session at her brother’s wedding. Oops, for sure! But was it really a mistake, though? This is why Quinn’s novels shine and leave us giggling and swooning as we read, and questioning what might happen next with her characters. And it works.

Quinn perfectly captures enemies to lovers and those awkward romantic moments that lead to comedy. Her talent shines just the same in her new release, Bridesmaid Undercover, the second in her current wedding-inspired series.

Featuring plenty of romantic tension alongside swoony moments, the book tells the story of the cheery and hopeful main character, Everly Plum. She is a girl who follows in Maggie’s footsteps after the first novel, leading to her own adventures. No spoilers, but it is a wonderful and heartwarming tale full of fun. So, get ready!

We had the chance to catch up with Meghan Quinn, where she told us all about her Bridesmaid for Hire series, the writing process, tropes and book boyfriends, and her upcoming releases.

When it comes to romance, your books capture readers’ hearts with a mix of humor and relatable situations. Are any elements of these stories inspired by real-life experiences?

Unfortunately, there are some very real experiences in my books. Some really embarrassing things. If you’ve read The Mother Road, then you know. I like to tell people, nothing is off-limits with me. Just recently my hair stylist gave me a little snippet about herself that was total main character energy and I told her it was going in a book.

What is your writing process like? Do you plan your stories and outline scenes, or are you more of a spur-of-the-moment writer who lets characters find their own direction as you draft?

I am a big time pantser. I try to plot out scenes and chapters, but I never end up using what I plot. I’ve learned very quickly to not waste my time, so now I just jump into a book and let the story lead the way.

I love how your books cover all the swoony tropes with hot book boyfriends — some are billionaires, athletes, small-town hotties and more. Which type of male love interest do you enjoy writing about the most and why?

Ooo, I love this question. So I love the sarcastic hero. He’s up for some good banter, is quick on his feet, an alpha in the sheets and a gentleman on the streets. I also like a hero who can afford some humility in his life and handles it like a pro. The hardest hero for me to write is the grump, because they don’t spar as much. They’re more gruff and short with their responses which doesn’t make it as fun for me. But I will say this, the grump is my favorite to read.

Your novel Bridesmaid for Hire made me love the way that the two love interests connected, especially with Maggie’s determined spirit and Brody’s wit. How did you come up with Maggie and Brody’s story and their perfect “hate-to-love” romance?

I was actually in Banff Canada, staying at The Fairmont and outside my window, a wedding was taking place. Of course, I was infatuated with it and decided to narrate the wedding like an ESPN analyst while it happened and the videos went viral on TikTok. It made me want to write something wedding-y and well … I had Maggie from a previous series and she was in event planning, so it all unfolded from there. Plus, brother’s best friend is an elite trope and I needed to write it as an enemies to lovers naturally, in a far-off paradise destination.

Tell us about the next book in the series, Bridesmaid Undercover. What can readers look forward to after the first book’s story?

Bridesmaid Undercover is an acquaintances to friends to lovers to enemies to lovers romance. Did you get that? It’s about Hardy Hopper, one of the billionaire brothers from Bridesmaid for Hire. His best friends are getting married and need help with their wedding, so he loops in Everly, Maggie’s assistant. She’s more than happy to help, especially since she has a huge crush on Hardy. But to her demise, he wants her help in another way as well, he wants her to help him get back together with his ex who is the maid of honor.

This book was so tough to write because I had to make their relationship a journey. Normally a friends-to-lovers romance has an already developed friendship, but with Bridesmaid Undercover, I had to establish that friendship, make it believable, and then show the readers that they are actually meant to be together in a whole other way. Took a lot of time and slow burn to make it happen.

Also, JP Cane from my Cane brothers series has a heavy cameo in this book and he has a new feathered friend that steals the show. Just be ready for some of the most ridiculous emails ever.

What can readers expect to see from you next in the literary world and beyond? Will there be another book in the Bridesmaid for Hire series?

There should be two more Bridesmaid books after this, at least that’s what is planned for the moment. But this fall/winter, I need everyone to put on their ugly Christmas sweaters because I have a full-length, spicy Christmas romance coming out October 15. It’s a rom-com spin-off of The Grinch, based in a small town called Kringle Town. Easily one of my favorite projects ever. I really hope readers love it as much as me. It’s called How My Neighbor Stole Christmas.
