Chronicles of War: Mark by Scott Cox
Fans of dystopian thrillers with tense action sequences and heart-pounding plotting, get ready for a 12-part graphic novel series that exceeds expectations. In Scott Cox’s Chronicles of War series, readers follow a scavenger, Jordan, as he embarks on a quest to uncover how the world fell into despair at the hands of a technocratic empire and fights to save the world from the wrath of this regime. Chronicles of War: Mark is a bold introduction to a new world and an epic origin story you won’t want to miss.
Action-Packed Sci-Fi Graphic Novel
In the near future, a brutal ruling government called the New United Empire holds power over eight cities. Outside the 50-foot walls of these eight Utopias, a war wages on against the technocratic regime. Revolutionary gladiators and a ruthless army of obedient fighters from the New United Empire (NUE) go head to head in a fight for resources, control and total power.
In San Antonio, Texas the last city free from the NUE and the Utopians, we see a world of disrepair. Still smoldering, crumbling buildings dot the skyline, while abandoned cars and bodies litter the streets. The story opens as Jordan and Tony uncover a chest in the back of a truck — could whatever’s inside be their ticket to freedom, across the border?
Soon, Jordan finds himself running from the NUE and it’s General with David, a kid he rescues, with the mysterious chest packed safely in his truck. As young David watches the chest open, he uncovers an unfathomable truth.
“To whomever reads this, these books are the last copies of our history before the New United Empire erased history and took control of society.”
Inside the pages of the books, David and the readers are taken back in time to witness the beginning of the end of life as it was before.
Brittany, a savvy aspiring journalist hopes to catch her big break as she chronicles the story of Master Sargeant Marcus Jenkins. This soldier, Mark, has stumbled into her car in need of a quick getaway, which is only the beginning of his and Brittany’s path to uncovering a dark conspiracy. On the run from bounty hunters, with a foggy feeling that his life is not his real life, Mark scrambles to uncover the truth of who he is.
Between dodging gunfire, fighting for their lives and getting caught in high-speed car-chases, they chip away at Mark’s involvement in a secret government project. As the unlikely pair gets close to the truth, their lives are in even more danger than they could have imagined. Mark’s prowess as a fighter and a soldier, determined to understand who he is and what he’s gone through, calls to mind Robert Ludlum’s equally compelling Jason Bourne.
A Conspiracy Changes the Course of History
Readers will be faced with a creeping sense of dread as panel by panel and page by page, they realize the truth of Mark’s experience and what that means for the future they’ve only glimpsed, run by the New United Empire. Jumping back and forth between timelines that seamlessly blend together by the final page, Chronicles of War: Mark introduces a world beyond readers’ wildest imaginations.
Impeccably drawn in black and white, characters and action scenes from artist Tirso Llaneta paired with Scott Cox’s one-of-a-kind story concept and dialogue will pull readers into the pages of this graphic novel. And have no fear – this story is just getting started. With 12 installments total, Chronicles of War will return later this year with Volume II, Gladiators.
