Nightbane by Alex Aster

What's It About?

With Alex Aster’s sequel comes a truly interesting tale, making it a fast-paced read that’s hard to put down.

Alex Aster’s sequel to her immersive Lightlark is finally available for readers, and picks up right after the last novel’s surprising cliffhanger.

The anticipated sequel, Nightbane, stands out thanks to its powerful yet relatable characters. It also provides a quick and exciting continuation of her adventurous fantasy world. With this sequel, Aster solidifies herself as a powerhouse of the fantasy and romance genre.

Not only is Alex Aster a talented storyteller, but the young writer has gained a legion of fans on social media. Aster said that she loves seeing readers sharing their thoughts on her books, especially Lightlark

While moderating Alex Aster at the 40th anniversary Miami Book Fair, Alex mentioned just how special social media, especially TikTok, has been for her creative ideas.

Lightlark was an idea that I brought up on social media and I was floored when it was picked up,” said Aster about the publishing deal that she received. “Social media has truly changed my life as an author and it’s amazing to see readers there enjoying my books and being excited about the sequel.”

And excited we are — this sequel, Nightbane is just as gripping, dangerous and romantic as the first, with beloved characters ready to risk it all for love, truth and safety.

Heartbreak Mixed with Action and Romance

Lightlark introduced readers to a world of high-stakes danger, where main character Isla truly shows what it means to be brave in the face of deadly challenges.

In the sequel, Isla is struggling to make some tough decisions. When the previous book concluded, Isla found herself at a crossroads regarding her feelings toward two love interests. She also struggled to understand her newly acquired magical powers, which were put to the test when she broke an old curse. Now, her world might be completely changed, and complicated love isn’t getting any easier.

There’s Grim, who Isla fell for even though he was off limits. He has wiped out all her memories from their time together and is threatening her to make a choice — one that would destroy the land of Lightlark in 30 days if she did not follow him and his demands. Isla’s current boyfriend Oslo is Lightlark’s King. He could lose his throne and his life if she makes the wrong decision.

Readers will feel for Isla as she tries to remember what Grim means to her and who he truly is. In moments of clarity, she senses that there’s something more to him. This conflict moves the story forward and leads to epic battles and the exploration of new lands, which affect Lightlark’s future — and Isla’s. Who doesn’t relate to the feeling of being torn between two worlds and impossible choices that could change your life?

Readers can expect more action, drama, and new twists and turns as they continue to follow the characters through Nightbane. You’ll want to stay tuned for another very interesting conclusion.

The Struggle of Finding Your Identity

The book is chock full of magic, action and drama. But when it comes to the characters, there is a definite struggle that they battle within themselves, as they try to understand their actions and choices — and their consequences. Character development makes or breaks stories, and here the development is clear and well thought-out.

With Alex Aster’s sequel comes a truly interesting tale, making it a fast-paced read that’s hard to put down.

It’s no surprise that Aster has been offered a deal to bring the Lightlark series to the big screen. The series and its cinematic elements would play out well as a film or television series, and fans of the first book will love this continuation. Let’s just say, there’s always a little heartbreak. Yet, from struggles and hardships comes hope, and we are definitely left hoping for the next installment in this engaging series.
