Queen of Highwings by Andri E. Elia

What's It About?

A world struggles for survival against a savage intergalactic marauder. Hrysanthia, heir to the Yandar Kingdom of Highwings, battles the invaders to free her planet.

Looking for a powerful female warrior conquering the battlefield of a fantasy world grander than anything we’ve known? Then look no further than Andri E. Elia’s Queen of Highwings.

Queen of Highwings is a companion novel to Elia’s Woldermaker of Yand trilogy and acts as a prequel to the trilogy’s final novel, Eltanin. It can be read on its own or as part of the series. But by the end, readers will be racing for the next book!

Following a bloody war that forced Asimia to flee her homeland, the winged, telepathic people of Yand have settled on Phe’lak and established the Kingdom of Highwings alongside the companionable Phe’laki people. But the Yandar’s dreaded enemy, the K’tul, followed them to their new home and began to lay siege to the planet. Their commander covets the worldmaker power Asimia possesses and will stop at nothing to claim it.

After years of battle, the capital city is under attack and being protected by Hrysanthia, eldest daughter of Queen Asimia and heir to the throne. High on the palace walls, Hrysanthia must hold back the full might of the enemy forces long enough for her mother and four-year-old sister, Silvia, to escape.

Unlike her sister, Silvia inherited their mother’s worldmaker power, which grants her immeasurable celestial strength. But with Silvia and Asimia so close together, their powers are dwindling, leaving Asimia especially weak and at risk of succumbing to an injury sustained during the war.

Can Hrysanthia beat the enemy forces, save her family and earn her rightful place as future Queen of Highwings?

Queen of Highwings is a unique mixture of science fiction and fantasy, with characters both fantastical and out-of-this-world.

While the Yandar and Phe’laki are more reminiscent of medieval knights in their grand, shining armor, the K’tul boast high-tech spaceships and brightly colored skin in shades of blue, purple and red. Yet the K’tul’s mystic mages and the Yandar’s ability to move between planets blur the lines between sci-fi and fantasy once again.

Author Andri E. Elia creates vast and complex worlds beyond imagination, with in-depth character backstories and extensive worldbuilding that bring the story to life. The intricate plot incorporates generations of history but remains grounded in action-packed scenes.

Queen of Highwings is a daring fantasy adventure filled with emotion and tension, perfect for fans of both fantasy and science fiction. Stakes are high, and readers will wait on the edge of their seats to see how their story ends in the next book, Borealis, which Elia is working on now.
