Our Season of Madness by Gigi Spacola

Fans of Gigi Spacola’s Laughing all the Way to the Bank will be thrilled to learn that Gigi (the name of both the author AND the main character) is back with another steamy installment in the series with the new release of her latest book, Our Season of Madness (P2PPublishing).

SUSPENSEFUL BEGINNINGS

There’s nothing I love more than the instant excitement of an opening in medias res — and Our Season of Madness drops readers right into the middle of the action in the opening scene where Gigi is wheeled into the emergency room.

Right away, we see the depth of the bond between mother and daughter. The theme of the grounding connection of Gigi’s close-knit family repeats and is magnified throughout the story, and readers who enjoy reading about close familial relationships will likely be delighted.

THE STORY SO FAR

In the first installment of the series, Gigi falls for campus heartthrob Jeremy Cotton, and fights it all the way to graduation night where the two engage in a night of drunken passion.

They quickly fall for each other, but Jeremy’s dad issues an ultimatum and threatens to cut him off if he doesn’t dump Gigi before he starts Harvard Law in the fall.

Jeremy caves. Gigi and Jeremy, her college one-night stand turned “The One” break up, at least until December, when Jeremy’s father has promised to give his blessing.

But Gigi is smart, beautiful, and a top performer at work, so while Jeremy is buckling down to make As in his first semester at Harvard, Gigi is winning sales awards and flirting with coworkers while Jeremy plots to win her back at the Christmas break.

Will they make it that long? Or will they break up for good?

RICH AND STEAMY

Like Laughing All the Way to the Bank, Our Season of Madness features lots of steamy sex and the kind of behind-the-scenes look at wealth and family expectations that have made shows such as Empire and Succession so popular with television fans.

Part of the appeal of this series for readers will be the “nose pressed against the glass” aspect of the story. Who wouldn’t like a closer peek at how the rich love and live? While Gigi comes from a close-knit middle class family, Jeremy’s family is wealthy, powerful, and often seems to have something bubbling just below the surface.

Spacola’s writing is infused with diamond-crusted enthusiasm, much in the same way that authors such as Jackie Collins’ Hollywood Wives and Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls were  in their heyday.

LOVE AND FAMILY DRAMA

When Jeremy’s father passes away unexpectedly, Jeremy must reckon with the choices he’s made, the impact of his separation from Gigi, and the promise that he made to his father.

Most romantic relationships can’t survive a four-month break. Even if both parties agree, it’s tough to stay apart from someone you love. More than that, even a relationship of equals begins to feel lopsided if one partner is willing to give up the other in exchange for money, power or family pressure.

Gigi handles this complex character dynamic in a way that will leave some readers thrilled, and others disappointed – which is exactly as it should be.

After all, there’s nothing that makes a fictional character (or let’s face it, a real-life one) more interesting than a messy personal life.

Our Season of Madness works as either a standalone or part of a series. Fans will be happy to know that Gigi will return in late 2023 with the third installment of the series, Gettin’ Busy.
