David A Neuman

Sci-Fi/Paranormal/Horror

Award-winning author of escapist fiction that questions the nature of reality.

You’ve heard of the slow-burner? David A. Neuman epitomizes the very definition, having first become involved in the escapism of creative writing some 30 years ago. During that period, he wrote Kaleidoscopic Shades: Where Black Eternity Begins (yet to be published in preference to the sequel). He then went on to complete Kaleidoscopic Shades: Within Black Eternity, which has been garnering acclaim through reviews that can be found on Amazon, Goodreads and, of course, here at BookTrib. The book has since gone on to win a Literary Titan award.

Having devoted several decades to assisting others in the paramedical field, Neuman easily slip-streamed into the paranormal after experiences he had when just a child — experiences that fueled his mind and opened him up to the very real possibility of existences beyond the front doors through which we walk nonchalantly as part of our daily affairs.

Living in a city among the one million people of South Australia, Australia, and surrounded by his faithful companions, three four-legged girls named Saffron, Cinnamon and Ginger, Neuman understands the cohabitation they share.

Kaleidoscopic Shades: Within Black Eternity (2022)

Biggest literary influences:

Dean Koontz gave me liberty whereas Stephen King gave me soul. From the magical paragraphs of Koontz to those of Stephen’s characters, I found my niche.

Currently working on:

The Penny Arcade, set to be released in 2023, is a sequel to Kaleidoscopic Shades, which sees Joshua Triplow embattled in a tug of war to save friendships and the loss of every child within the township of Kapunda.

Built on the blood of countless souls in historical times, a Victorian mansion is set in the rural expanses of South Australia, and became an orphanage with a dark reputation run by a sociopath who took care of the children — keeping them close … one might say, contained. Especially the boys.

Razed in the early 1990s, the good people of Kapunda erected a playground to appease past miseries, but what no one could have known was that The Penny Arcade was a survivor from the infancy of ancient winds.

And not until an impossible phone call cuts through inter-dimensions are the very best and worst of human nature thrust together, because The Penny Arcade won’t allow the children to escape … never … ever … never ever …

Words to live by:

Focusing on the delightful people across the world and genders will slowly break down the negativity and finger-pointing that seem to have become a pandemic of its own.

Advice for aspiring authors:

This holds true to each and every one of us whether we decide to write a book or build a skyscraper: remain true to yourself.

REVIEWS & TESTIMONIALS: Kaleidoscopic Shades: Within Black Eternity

“I’m intrigued by this story; part Stephen King, part David Mitchell, part David Lynch (especially that lovely section set in some kind of weird poker room inside the Earth’s crust, which is amazingly surreal and like something straight out of Twin Peaks). I’m also a fan of [the] personal writing style here, with its emphasis on wry humor and clever wordplay. … A really unique and interesting story that fans will not only enjoy but very passionately love in this cult-like way.” —Jason Pettus, editor

“An exciting work of paranormal fiction. It takes you into a world where times could be manipulated, and a whole nation can disappear without a trace. It takes you into a world where anything and everything is possible. I recommend this book to lovers of paranormal fiction. Generally, lovers of fiction would find this book an interesting read.” —Online Book Club

“Whilst this is not my genre, I was captivated by the reality and relevance of the storyline. The children took me back to the novelty of childhood friends when you were young and your friends had innocent outlooks. The story flowed and I was both eager to see what happened next and engrossed. Though a lot of stories centre around nightmares, in Kaleidoscopic Shades, the nightmares were real. The people are real, the horrors are real. I felt captivated by a world of the unbelievable that was made scarily too real and left you wanting more.” —Barb Tainsh, book club member

“Wow!!! What a read! An intriguing, engaging and articulately written book. It builds in intensity and gripping suspense and makes you question whether unthinkable events could actually be possible. If this were a movie, my nerves wouldn’t last.” —Gina Skoumbros, reader
