BOOKS:

WagerEasy (2/2021)

Wager Tough (7/2021)

Your biggest literary influences:

Kurt Vonnegut, John Fowles, Dick Francis, Gillian Flynn, Dennis Lehane, Karin Slaughter, Don Winslow and Michael Connelly, to name a few.

Last book read:

Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

The book that changed your life:

Ainslie’s Complete Guide to Thoroughbred Racing by Tom Ainslie. I purchased this book in 1975 and not only has it saved me a lot of money at the windows, it showed me how rewarding it can be to do the background research in any endeavor I embarked upon.

Your favorite literary character:

Huckleberry Finn. A thousand scholars can tell you why, but you have to read it for yourself.

Currently working on:

The third book in the Wager Series set in Las Vegas.

Words to live by:

Persistence, editing and background research.

Advice for aspiring authors:

Join a critique group and a local writer’s organization. Writers tend to be introverts and need to share the struggle with others. When you meet with other writers, try to discuss books instead of the latest “thing” streaming on cable.

Testimonials:

“WagerEasy is a fast-paced thriller that takes the reader into the underbelly of a high-stakes criminal enterprise about to go ‘legit’ where everything is up for grabs and no one is safe. It’s also a love letter to Chicago from an author who knows it well.”
