My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing
Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films (the production company behind the Emmy-winning HBO series, Big Little Lies) and Amazon Studios have announced their partnership on a feature film based on Samantha Downing’s first novel, My Lovely Wife. The domestic thriller revolves around a married couple who put passion back into their fifteen year marriage by committing murder. The 2019 book has gone on to become an international bestseller and Best First Novel nominee for the 2020 Edgar Award, considered the top prize for crime fiction. It is also being released in paperback tomorrow, March 3. (For a sneak preview, read our previous review and interview with the author here.)
Up next for Downing is her sophomore novel, He Started It (Berkley), on sale April 28. It’s billed as another dark and twisted thriller in which three violence-prone siblings come together to repeat a road trip they once took as children to fulfill their wealthy, deceased grandfather’s final wish and secure their inheritance. Let’s just say neither trip ends well. Will this one also find its way to the screen? We’ll just have to stay tuned.
