The Lost World, Arthur Conan Doyle
In this classic tale that follows Professor George Edward Challenger, it is believed that dinosaurs still roam the Earth – but how will he prove it? Very quickly, on a journey with a skeptical journalist who wants to see it with his own eyes, this tale of disbelief and wonder turns into one of survival. At times, your sides will be split by the abrupt humor, and at other times you’ll be at the end of your seat wondering what will happen to the beloved characters.
Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
This is one you’ve almost positively heard of or even seen on the big screen at some point in your life. Mary Shelley’s classic, Frankenstein, follows the doctor Victor Frankenstein as he puts together a body that he wants to bring to life to prove to everyone that it can be done. However, he gets something he never expected – a hideous creature that cannot be stopped. This is a classic that is on everyone’s must-read list, especially if you are a fan of both sci-fi and horror!

Ayesha, the immortal white queen of an African tribe, pays tribute to a mythological figure and demands that she be obeyed. In our modern times where women are seen as empowered and enlightened, this is a great one to pick up for a classic take on powerful women who can’t be stopped.
