Somehow it’s already August (where has the summer gone??) and the heat is sweltering, the beach days are in full swing, and we’re already bracing for that first cold bite of fall. While we bask in our last true summer month, we’re devouring as many new books as we can. Luckily, August is filled with some awesome new releases, from New Adult to Fantasy to historical mysteries.
Here are the 10 we books can’t wait to get our hands on as the summer winds down around us:

Sweet Tomorrows, Debbie Macomber (Ballantine Books, August 2, 2016)
Macomber is a romance powerhouse with dozens of titles to her name. Sweet Tomorrows is the fifth book in her Rose Harbor series and this time we get two love stories as both inn owner Jo Marie Rose and her new boarder Emily Gaffney learn how to open themselves up to love again.

The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy Schumer (Gallery Books, August 16, 2016)
We can’t get enough of Schumer’s comedy, which is why we’re dying to read her first collection of essays. Knowing her, these stories will be confessional, raunchy and completely hilarious.

It Ends With Us, Colleen Hoover (Atria Books, August 2, 2016)
New Adult readers fell in love with Hoover years ago (us included), thanks to her Slammed series. Her latest is about the hardworking Lily who falls for surgeon Ryan, despite his commitment issues. But when her past resurfaces, including an old love, her new romance will be put to the test.

A Torch Against the Night, Sabaa Tahir (Razorbill, August 30, 2016)
This is the sequel to Tahir’s bestselling Young Adult Fantasy novel, An Ember in the Ashes, which came out last April. Scholar slave Laia and Elias, traitor to the Martial Empire, are on the run, hunted by an army that includes an old friend. Called a “spectacular sequel” by Entertainment Weekly, A Torch Against the Night is one of the most anticipated YA releases of the summer.

First Star I See Tonight, Susan Elizabeth Phillips (William Morrow, August 23, 2016)
We’ve been huge fans of Phillips’ Chicago Stars series for years, and we’re more than ready to dive into her latest installment. Former Stars Quarterback Cooper Graham is in need of security for his new nightclub when he meets Piper Dove, a detective who’s determined to become the best in Chicago (and who’s currently tailing him). Since it’s a Phillips novel, we can expect lots of witty banter and a few blisteringly hot make out scenes.

A Beautiful Funeral, Jamie McGuire (CreateSpace, August 15, 2016)
McGuire continues to flesh out the Maddox family with a novel that includes all the beloved brothers. Set 11 years after Travis and Abby elope, the secret he’s been keeping is finally out and his family is in danger because of it. The brothers and their wives take sides as we revisit the entire Maddox clan.

The Shattered Tree, Charles Todd (William Morrow, August 30, 2016)
The mother/son writing team of Charles Todd returns with another Bess Crawford mystery. When Bess, a World War I nurse, finds a wounded soldier on the battlefield, she’s determined to know where he came from — and what side he’s fighting for. But finding the truth, and uncovering the mystery of just why this soldier keeps disappearing, will be harder than Bess thought.

Under the Lights, Abbi Glines (Simon & Schuster, August 25, 2016)
Beloved New Adult author Glines returns with a sequel to last year’s Young Adult novel, Until Friday Night.
