Jane Austen inspires a witty new web series: Project Dashwood

in Fiction by

Webheads love a great Jane Austen web series! Starting this week is the long-awaited Project Dashwood, a modern adaption of Sense and Sensibility, set in southern California. BookTrib got the scoop on the new series from the its creators, Alayna Mae, Maeve O’Connell, and Jessamyn Leigh. Lit for Webheads: What is the premise of Project Dashwood? Project Dashwood: It is the life of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as seen through the eyes of their younger sister, Margaret. She’s into film and trying her hand at vlogging, so she films everything that happens to her family. The story starts three weeks after her father dies. LFW: Where do you film? PD: We all live in Eugene, Oregon, and shoot there, mostly…

Webheads favorite kiss revealed — and this week’s episodes

in Fiction by

What makes a great literary web series kiss? What makes us get lightheaded, warms us up, and causes our knees to vicariously buckle? We love how Lizzie Bennet, Emma Woodhouse, Vic Frankenstein and Alice Rackham all initiated their kisses. Kyle Walters, doing double duty as Peter Pan and Sanditon’s Ed Denham, gets bonus points for technique. After all they had fought through, Carmilla and Laura’s kiss was a triumphant declaration that love conquers all. And after 95 episodes of waiting, could anything top Dizzie Day? Here at Webheads, we had a lot of trouble picking our choice for Best Kiss. And judging by how the vote is spread out, you did, too! As we went live, Lizzie and Darcy were…

It’s the end of another year and we can’t resist jumping in with 2014 Webheads Most Memorable Episodes. Let’s take some time before we toast in a new year of literary webiness to take a look back at a few of our favorite web series moments. Then vote for your favorite web series, and watch this column for the results. We loved the finale of Emma Approved (the cranes!). But we agree with #1 in the LBD Care Center fan poll, Episode 70, when Knighthouse becomes a thing—“At Last.”   “Don’t grow up; it’s a trap!” There is so much we love about The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy that it would fill a page (and it did in…

Lit for Webheads — Spotlight on the holidays

in Fiction by

A Webheads holiday is not complete without celebrating it with our favorite web series. We obsessed after Lizzie’s Bennet’s ill-conceived birthday present to her sister Lydia, which caused a lasting rift that echoed through Christmas. We loved Rochester and Jane Eyre’s picture postcard holiday greeting. Who can forget the most awkward company holiday party ever after Emma realized Elton’s feeling were for her and not Harriet? And after Lydia impulsively ran off to Las Vegas, we were more focused on how she was celebrating than our own New Year’s Eve party. This year, we are looking forward to watching the March family celebrate without Marmee, curious about just how awkward Christmas will be at Jack’s, and we can’t wait for…

Doctor Who make appearance web series

in Fiction by

Maybe you’ve noticed that there is an unexpected common thread in literary web series that warms my nerdy heart: Doctor Who. Carmilla’s Laura has a TARDIS mug. Wendy Darling has a TARDIS dress. Friends of BookTrib, Kyle Walters and Shawn deLoache (The New Adventures of Peter & Wendy), are such big fans that they have a weekly review show. No matter the web series, the references are everywhere. Maybe finding them should be a new drinking game! WHAT’S HAPPENING On In Earnest, Jack is waffling about telling Gwen about Cecily, and Algie is scheming to meet her. Cecily resumes her video diary to avoid studying, and we meet Lacey Prism and Drew Chausible. Will Cecily ever meet the mysterious Earnest?…
