I discovered Lisa Jewell when I picked up The House We Grew Up In last year, a story about a dysfunctional family with a matriarch who is a hoarder, and I couldn’t put it down. I took the book with me to the bathroom so I wouldn’t have to stop reading. Jewell has the rare ability to create compelling characters and twisty plotlines that hook me from the first sentence.
