Books to Satisfy Your Every Craving for Fifty Shades Freed

in Romance by

Fifty Shades Freed comes out today and— no lie— I’ve already bought my ticket! It’s the third and final movie in the series, so there’s no way I’m going to miss this one, and not just because I’d pay good money to look at Jamie Dornan’s abs for two hours. As a reader of the books by E.L. James, I’ve been invested in this series from the beginning. And look,I’ll admit it: epic cinema this is not.  But, the movies are fun and romantic and they make just enough sense to stay vaguely entertaining. Villains are dispatched in short order (usually in the first scene or two), the sex is graphic enough to make it too embarrassing to watch with your…

Erotic Tales that Every Fifty Shades Darker Fan is Scrambling to Read

in Romance by
Fifty Shades Darker

Fifty Shades Darker is officially out today, February 10, and we’ve already bought our tickets. And popcorn. And maybe even a silk tie or two. Can you blame us? Based on the bestselling book series by E.L. James, the sequel to 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey movie looks sexier, sleeker and filled with enough romance to make anyone swoon. This time around Christian Grey (James Dornan) is finally ready to allow Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) fully into his life, assuming she’ll give him another chance. But the submissive girl finally has her own demands, and she’s no longer willing to play by Christian’s rules. The two seem happier than ever with their relationship, until a mysterious figure from Christian’s past shows up and threatens everything…

#AskELJames: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

in Romance by

So it seems that someone on E.L. James’ team doesn’t like her very much. How does this Bookish Diva know this? #AskElJames Those who value their brain cells, eyeballs, and sanity may not be aware of the multi-book series that James penned. OK, that may be statistically impossible. All of us have heard of it. (First rule of Fifty Shades disdain, you don’t acknowledge the existence of Fifty Shades.) But then, the soul-sucking machine that powers this unfortunate media juggernaut decided that a Twitter Q&A would be a nifty idea. Apparently they didn’t see what happened to JP Morgan, the NYPD, R. Kelly, or Bill Cosby. This Bookish Diva is guessing that her media team has this thought in mind…

Even die-hard 50 Shades fans might not care about Grey

in Romance by

Hey, you asked for it. Responding to the many fans who wanted to hear the 50 Shades of Grey story from Christian Grey’s perspective, author E L James has delivered the titillating goods. The new book, simply titled Grey, will indeed revolve around Christian’s view and unsurprisingly, it’s scheduled to arrive on June 18. Yes, fans will remember that June 18 is Christian’s birthday in 50 Shades. As James writes: “This book is dedicated to those readers who asked…and asked… and asked… and asked for this.”  James adds that “Christian is a complex character” and reminds everyone that when it comes to relationships, there are two sides to every story. Christian’s world is neat and disciplined but also devoid of any real feeling;…

15 literature-inspired jack-o’-lanterns for Halloween

in Potpourri by

Next week is Halloween, which makes this prime jack-o’-lantern carving time. But instead of the usual triangle eyes and toothy grin, why not try something a little different this year? If you’re anything like us at BookTrib, all the inspiration you need is currently sitting on your bookshelf. Here are 15 of our favorite literary pumpkins for 2014:   Harry Potter This pumpkin isn’t scaring anyone; it’s just too adorable. You might need to buy a little paint to pull this one off, but it’s worth it for his spiky hair alone.   Frankenstein A perfect likeness of Frankenstein’s monster. Plus he looks appropriately broody.   The Hobbit Love the image they captured of his back and that familiar logo.…

A not-so-simple answer to “What do you do?”

in Potpourri by

Ever since I’ve added “author” to my list of titles I’ve struggled a bit with the question, “What do you do?” When non-publishing industry people ask me I usually say, “Oh, I’m a wife, a mother, an office manager for a physician by day and an author by night.” Not too terribly difficult to answer, right? What is hard to answer is the follow up question, the dreaded: “What do you write?” That’s a bit more don’t-step-there-and-you-might-blow-some-unsuspecting-person’s-mind-ish. The truth is very simple and yet more complex than you might think. I write fiction—romantic fiction, including suspense and erotica. I can make that declaration here with no problem. In my mind I’m shouting it at you so you hear me. In…
