The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1 and 2. It is believed that on The Day of the Dead, spirits of deceased family members return to earth to partake in the day’s festivities. The day includes a variety of traditional foods, including sugar skulls, or Calaveras, and special bread called pan de muerto. People celebrating the day also build and decorate altars in their homes for their loved ones with various offerings to the spirits including candy, food, beverages and other things their loved ones enjoyed in life.
