Battle ‘Ships Never-Lose-Hope Edition: Delena vs. Klaroline!

in Fiction by

Most of the time, I like to root for couples that I know stand a chance at Happily Ever After. Sometimes, I’m bitterly disappointed (don’t even get me started on How I Met Your Mother’s Barney & Robin), but I can usually spot a life-long love a mile away. It’s why I stuck around for the Blair & Chuck drama on Gossip Girl. It’s why I knew that Veronica & Logan would eventually make it work on Veronica Mars – even if it took 10 years and a Kickstarter movie. I’m just a true fan of true love. So when my favorite couples get torn apart by outside circumstances, I have a hard time adjusting. Especially when it’s out of…

Battle ‘Ships: Will They or Won’t They Edition!

in Fiction by

Usually on Battle ‘Ships, we like to pit couples from the same show against each other. But this time we’re switching things up and focusing on a theme rather than a love triangle. Welcome to Battle ‘Ships: Will They/Won’t They edition. Any TV junkie is well aware of the Will They Or Won’t They (WTOWT) couple. It’s one of the most familiar tropes out there –- so familiar, in fact, that it’s hard to name a TV show without a WTOWT couple lurking somewhere in every episode. Famous ones from history include Rachel and Ross from Friends, Luke and Lorelei from Gilmore Girls, Jim and Pam from The Office, Chuck and Blair from Gossip Girl, etc. I could go on and on,…

Battle ‘Ships: Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Bangel vs. Spuffy

in Fiction by

There are really no words for how much Buffy the Vampire Slayer meant to me as a teenager. Or how much it means to me even now, as a full-blown adult. On the surface, Buffy is a campy paranormal fantasy about a blonde vampire slayer who moves to Sunnydale, California, home of a Hellmouth. In reality, the show is an allegory for growing up, using monsters to represent the demons that we face at different points in our adolescence. It’s also quick, smart, heart wrenching, deeply moving, and just plain fun. The day it went off the air was a dark one all around that many fans can attest to. And while creator Joss Whedon has continued the story in…

Battle ‘Ships: The Flash’s WestAllen vs. SnowBarry

in Fiction by

When The Flash first premiered last year as a spinoff of superhero show Arrow, I thought it would be a nice antidote to its predecessor’s often dark and depressing storylines. Everything about it felt simpler: a less complicated superhero, more humor and an established love story from the very beginning. This show had none of the Laurel/Felicity/Oliver angst of Arrow. Though it might take a while to get there, it was clear that Barry Allen and Iris West were endgame. Fast-forward to a year and a half later, and I’m forced to eat my words. The Flash might actually be more complicated than Arrow at this point, with time travel, alternate dimensions and two pretty solid ‘ships to choose from. Some…

Battle ‘Ships: The Originals’ Klayley vs. Klamille

in Fiction by

Can we please talk about how awesome Klaus Mikaelson is as a character? When we first met him on The Vampire Diaries, viewers were immediately intrigued by the sexy bad boy with a long history of questionable deeds (he is an immortal vampire, after all) and a hidden soft side he only shows to a select few. Now that he’s on his own show, The Originals, he’s even better – that soft side is a little more pronounced without losing the evil-vampire edge we’ve come to know and love. He’s the kind of guy who might make out with you, compel you to forget it, snap your neck in a fit of rage, and then feel bad about it later.…

Battle ‘Ships: The 100’s Bellarke vs. Clexa

in Fiction by

In our last Battle ‘Ships column, we tackled The Vampire Diaries, pitting Stefan/Caroline (“Steroline”) ‘shippers against Klaus/Caroline (“Klaroline”) ‘shippers. It should come as no surprise that “Klaroline” won by a landslide on our poll, proving once and for all (at least on BookTrib!) that Klaus and Caroline are meant to be. This time, we’ve picked a ‘ship with even more of a contentious fanbase: The 100. Based on a young adult series by Kass Morgan, The 100 tells the story of a future world desecrated by nuclear war, with the only survivors living on a spaceship called the Ark. But when it becomes clear that the Ark can’t sustain life much longer, 100 teenage prisoners are sent to earth to see…

Video: Missed It? Battle ‘Ships: The 100 Featuring Kass Morgan

in Fiction by

As you might already be aware, BookTrib has a new column called “Battle ‘Ships,” where we compare two relationships on a popular TV show (or book series) and let the fans engage, and vote for their favorites. With the epic return of The CW’s The 100 finally in sight (that was a long hiatus, guys) we thought it would be a fun experience for fans near and far to have Kass Morgan, author of The 100 book series, on BookTrib Live to chat with one of our staffers (who happens to be a die-hard The 100 fan). They’ll talk about the romantic entanglements (Bellarke, Clexa, Clexamy, Princess Mechanic, Kabby, really anyone and anything) in her books, as well as what’s happening on its TV counterpart.…

Battle ‘Ships: The Vampire Diaries’ Klaroline vs. Steroline

in Fiction by

One day in the BookTrib offices, three of us almost came to blows over The 100’s “Bellarke” and “Clexa” relationships as we fought for who Clarke should ultimately end up with (Bellamy for the win with two against one!). That’s when we realized how passionate ‘shippers can be — including us. Which is why we’re presenting our own “Battle ‘Ships,” our latest column that pits some of the biggest television ‘ships against one another. We’ll weigh in our favorites and give you a chance to vote for yours. Not sure what a ‘ship is? Don’t worry: we’ve got you covered. This time we’re tackling one of the most complicated shows on television: The Vampire Diaries. As soon as The Vampire Diaries…
