Judging Criteria

  1. Strength of argument.
  2. Clearly stated and supported point of view (i.e. clarity of argument).
  3. Overall strength of writing – well-formulated sentences, proper sentence structure, punctuation, etc.
  4. Originality – was the writer’s point of view unique (i.e., not derivative or obvious).
  5. Poignancy – did the writer capture the spirit of Jackie Robinson’s legacy or say something meaningful about modern-day society.
  6. Length: 800 words (longer pieces will be omitted)
