Jackie Robinson stands as an icon of equality and civil rights. What does that say about the power of his legacy, of the place of sports in our culture, and about our modern-day society?

Judging Criteria

  1. Strength of argument.
  2. Clearly stated and supported point of view (i.e. clarity of argument).
  3. Overall strength of writing – well-formulated sentences, proper sentence structure, punctuation, etc.
  4. Originality – was the writer’s point of view unique (i.e., not derivative or obvious).
  5. Poignancy – did the writer capture the spirit of Jackie Robinson’s legacy or say something meaningful about modern-day society.
  6. Length: 800 words (longer pieces will be omitted)
