Gwendolyn grew up in Houston, Texas. She went to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks to study Environmental Science and ended up in the Theater Department after she fell in love with playwriting. She lived in St. Petersburg Russia working with theater companies and then went on to receive an MFA at California Institute of the Arts in Directing for theater and film. While there she was encouraged to write all her own material. After graduation she knew writing was her first passion and she focused on writing feature screenplays. In 2009 she moved to Japan and started writing The Memory Painter the following year. Her path to becoming a novelist was a winding one, but now she couldn’t imagine it any other way. Currently she lives in Los Angeles with her husband and son and she is currently working on her next novel.
