The book that changed your life:

That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea Hardcover by Marc Randolph

My father passed away in 2019. When cleaning out his house, I opened a dusty old box and discovered several birthday and Father’s Day cards. I began to read a letter I sent to him dated May 20, 1987. At first, I was confused but then I burst out into laughter which turned into absolute joy and shock. He had kept my letter and the envelope with my original designs for what would ten years later in 1997 become Netflix.

It suddenly made me realize, after struggling for years with self-doubt and imposter syndrome that I am smart enough to think of an amazing idea that would one day become Netflix. Not by me, of course, but that wasn’t the point, the technology in 1987 didn’t exist to make it a reality, but wow was I on to something! I signed the letter “Entrepreneur,” which took me until I was 46 to become, but here I am.

A few months later, I read Marc Randolf’s book on the birth of Netflix and was inspired by his entrepreneurial journey. I wrote to Marc to tell him of my letter to  my father, and he was amazed. It truly changed my perspective on my own entrepreneurial dreams and gave me the courage to continue my own entrepreneurial journey and in 2020 I became a published author.

Your favorite literary character:

Jo March from Little Women.  She is a strong female, smart, impulsive and fiercely protective of her family. She does care about what other people think but does what she feels is best, not what other people think is best.

Currently working on:

Demystifying Procurement. Bridging The Gap Between Procurement and Sales.

Words to live by:

Control your destiny or someone else will! (Also the title of my third book)

Advice for aspiring authors:

Find someone who will help you edit your chapters as you write them to keep you on track with your writing. Knowing my editor was waiting for chapters from me made me prioritize my writing by setting goals for when each chapter would be finished and ready for her review. I didn’t want to disappoint her or make her wait for me.  It came together fast when I had her to keep me accountable.
