Last Word
by Rita Moreau
DESCRIPTION:
Gwen Morgan Adams, a 55-year-old journalist facing the end of her career, returns to her childhood home in Fish Camp, FL, where her sister, Mira, operates a caregiving service. Mira asks Gwen to care for a dying woman named Kay. Calling herself “Sir Kay,” the eccentric client insists Gwen is “Arthur” and sends her on a series of mysterious errands: delivering envelopes to people who have lost hope. Gwen follows these vague instructions, presenting envelopes to a woman with a crying baby, a sad woman at a bus stop, and a potential teenage dropout. Each delivery sparks small but meaningful change — including one for Gwen herself, pushing her to reconcile with her estranged daughter. As Kay’s past surfaces, Gwen learns of a long-lost love, an actress named Ava, and reunites them to marry — a final act of closure. After Kay’s death, her legacy binds these lives together, leaving Gwen with one final charge — to reclaim her voice as a writer and write the story of Sir Kay.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
A workaholic by nature, Rita Moreau, upon retirement, began to work on her bucket list by writing a book. Traveling the national parks with her husband George in a vintage Bluebird motorhome, Rita completed her first novel Bribing Saint Anthony. Back home, she was having so much fun that she completed four more novels in the Mary Catherine Mahoney mystery series. When the pandemic hit, Rita decided to put this time to good use and wrote the first two novels in a new Ghost & the Camper Kooky mystery series. She kept going and has added five more to this wacky series.
Rita lived in a postcard called Florida, where George, the love of her life, always had fun telling everyone he’s the author’s husband. He was her lightning rod. Rita lost George in December 2021. She honors his memory daily. He lived life to the fullest. When not writing, she joins PatZi Gil on the "Joy on Paper" radio program with Book Buzz Mysteries, or teaches group fitness classes and walks the beach.
