Happy weekend, book lovers! This week’s The Pulse inadvertently took a bit of a royal turn in light of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing last week, but it’s amazing to see how much of an impact she (as well as the royals) have on the world. What’s more, we have a special selection of recently released books that revolve around the British monarchy, and they’re chockfull of gossip and insight! NEWS FROM THE BOOK WORLD
According to The Bookseller, the book industry is continuing to respond to the Queen’s death with major publishers delaying announcements and events being postponed. A number of planned events have already been cancelled, including the Polari Prize shortlist showcase. Book trade responds to Queen’s death with major publishers delaying announcements. A spokesperson for Pan Macmillan said they are holding back any new major announcements out of respect during this time. The same goes for quite a few other publishers. That being said, there’s speculation that we can expect many books about the Queen to be announced in the coming weeks.
In books-to-screen news, the hit Netflix show, The Crown, has suspended production on Friday in honor of the Queen’s death, according to Variety. The series is currently in the middle of shooting its sixth and supposedly final season. In other book adaptation news, R.O. Kwon’s The Incendiaries is headed to the small screen, Deadline reported.

The 2022 Kirkus Prize: Young Readers’ Finalists have been announced! Congratulations to Betina Birkjær, Jacqueline Woodson, Niki Smith, Anne Ursu, Harmony Becker, and Rimma Onoseta.
It’s been announced that Art Spiegelman will receive the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation.
The winners of the Anthony Awards, given annually to works of mystery and crime literature, were announced Saturday, with S.A. Cosby, Mia P. Manansala, and Jess Lourey among the authors honored with the prizes.

Andrew Morton, who is known for his biographies of British royals, will tell the story of the life of Queen Elizabeth II in a new biography titled, The Queen: Her Life.
