Heir of Prophecy by Analeigh Sbrana
Secrets, prophecies, lies, betrayal – Heir of Prophecy by Analeigh Sbrana delivers it all and more in the thrilling first instalment of a new duology.
Human Audra finds her world turned upside down the day that the Mist leaves its historic boundaries and creeps in towards her town. Thrust into a deadly new realm of fae, magic, and prophecies, she finds herself at Holyvere Academy of Arcane and Battle Arts, where she must compete against the other students to be top of her class while the fae search among the students for the prophesied Heir who will end the ongoing winter and bring about spring.
Brimming with secrets and with danger waiting around every corner, Holyvere may not be all that they were told, and Audra’s doubts begin to creep in further when a handsome demon shows up with tidings of a second prophecy for the Heir. As classes, trials, and strange dreams unfold, Audra is torn between the devil she knows – or thinks she knows – and the tantalizing promise of another choice, one that may not require the ultimate sacrifice looming on the horizon.
Packed with a cool new magic system, vivid world-building, powerful characters and greedy gods, Heir of Prophecy takes you on a ride you won’t soon forget, leaving you desperate to get your hands on the next book as you reach the final pages.
A Fierce Heroine Caught Between Two Fates
Audra is a fierce, passionate FMC that I absolutely loved reading. She’s morally grey – as are many of the cast that we meet – and her struggle with right and wrong, who benefits from her choices or suffers from them, is incredibly well written. She may be driven by her desire to return home, but she is equally determined to master her growing magic and reach the top of her class. There is a need to prove herself, both to those around her and to herself, and it’s a fine line that she walks as she navigates the two fates potentially awaiting her.
Opposite Audra, get ready for Zhaire to join your list of MMC favourites – think Rhys and Xaden – as he is an absolute treat, from his mysterious magic to his delightful banter. The supporting cast, especially Audra’s found family at Holyvere, are a wonderful bunch as well, and I love the way that Sbrana has crafted their relationships over the course of the novel. Throughout the entire story, Sbrana has given us a cast of diverse characters that are detailed and layered, centering Black characters in this stunning dark academia-infused world.
Who Gets to Decide Your Destiny?
This is a story that explores destiny and fate and who truly determines that for you. Is it the ancient prophecies, the cycles that have always been, the old guard, or the gods? Or can you toss it aside and make your own way? I cannot wait to read the final instalment of this duology, as Sbrana has me completely hooked. What will Audra choose? Will the prophecies be fulfilled?
From chosen-one to enemies-to-lovers tropes, an academy setting and fae magic, Sbrana dishes up a heartpounding fantasy that will have you holding your breath as each new piece of the puzzle is revealed. Perfect for fans of Fourth Wing, Ninth House, The Atlas Six, and Babel, if you love a book filled with prophecies, swoon-worthy slow-burn romance, magical academies, fae, demons and so much more, then Heir of Prophecy is for you!
