Till Summer Do Us Part by Meghan Quinn

The perfect summer read.

Till Summer Do Us Part delivers everything I expect in a Meghan Quinn romantic comedy, from the banter and belly laughs to spice so spicy you’ll find yourself blushing. This brand-new standalone is the perfect summer read.

The female main character, Scottie, 29, has just moved back to New York City after a divorce, and she is ready to embrace the life of a single girl in the city, complete with a job that brings her joy and a bodega guy who knows her by name. She’s so lost in the Nora Ephron of it all that even angry New Yorkers battling the packed sidewalks on their morning commute can’t phase her.

Fake Dating and … Marriage Counseling?

Cut to three months later, when Scottie is not living out her Nora Ephron fantasies. She is, in fact, a copy editor at a golf putter company surrounded by Brads and Chads. She’s lost the spark of hope we saw in the prologue, which is sad for Scottie but good for the reader because some of the best comedy in a rom-com comes when the main characters are close to giving up.

Scottie’s office has a whole obsessed-with-marriage thing going on, and as the lone single and only woman other than her boss, she feels inadequate and more than a little judgy toward their bonding over blissful couples weekend plans.

With a short fuse and lack of filter, she lets it fly that not only does she have a husband, but their marriage is on the rocks. No worries, though, her boss’s husband happens to be a marriage counselor with a 100% success rate and an opening the next morning. Lucky Scottie!

Summer Camp for the (Un)Happy Couple

Thankfully, Scottie’s best friend has a brother with a lot of time on his hands and an affinity for improv, so he jumps in as the husband. It’s worth noting that the first marriage counseling session is one of the funniest book scenes I’ve read in quite a while. Wilder, 27, the brother and fake husband, goes off the rails in his improv and lands them in an eight-day marriage camp because “he doesn’t want to give up on them”.

With that, it’s time to pack bug spray and nerd clusters so they can head upstate and fix their fake marriage. And hopefully keep Scottie in the good graces of her marriage-obsessed boss.

Camp consists of a lot of therapy in various formats. There are couples’ competitions with erotic baskets as the prize for winning, private couple’s counseling, banishment to the center of a lake in a canoe without a paddle and a tent miles from camp where they are forced to work on communication.

Funny, Spicy and Emotionally Charged

If there’s one thing I know Meghan Quinn will give us, it’s an absolutely unhinged sensual class. The instructor will always be blissfully unaware of how uncomfortable the main characters are, and by the end, I’ll be laughing so hard I can barely breathe. In Till Summer Do Us Part, we get this experience numerous times, and each one delivers.

Turns out Scottie may actually need the marriage counseling to work through the lingering pain from her divorce. As funny as their therapy sessions were, the sadness she experiences hit me right in the gut. Wilder is the perfect partner for this — emotionally available and patient. As he sets out to help Scottie heal the wounds that feeling rejected by her ex-husband left behind, they find something special brewing between the two of them.

This book is a ton of fun and a great introduction to Meghan Quinn’s style. As a standalone, there’s nothing to catch up on, so you can dive right into one of the funniest and spiciest romance writers in the game.
